Reggie Miller predicts the Lakers will Challenge 96 Bulls

http://www.nba.com/video/channels/nb...tc_lal_30.nba/

Starting at around the 2:35 mark, is when he says this years Lakers will "Challenge" the 96' Bulls 72 win season. He basically talks about how Talented the Lakers are, and how much firepower they have.

THEN he says that even though they have a chance to have more than 72 wins, they are NOT the favorites for the Championship. He says a Healthy Celtics team would win.

Well it looks like the Magic aren't favorites to another guy again. Shocker.

Well, that's a bad sign for Laker fans. If he predicts around 72, I say they will win 57.

:oldlol: yeah Reggie's full of BS.
But seriously though, the Lakers have a sick roster and if the chemistry is there... who knows? :confusedshrug: I think they'll get around 65-70 barring injuries.

A healthy Lakers team is more talented than the '96 Bulls, but not better. I see the Lakers winning around 65-67 games this year.

The '96 Bulls didn't pass 70 cause of talent. They won that many games because they were disciplined. Talent can only take you so far. This year the Lakers have the talent to match the win total of the '96 Bulls, but they don't have the discipline or leadership.

Lakers have plenty of good leadership it is wether they will stay focused against the bad teams will decide if they can get close enough to 70 wins. The fact this team won 65 with Bynum missing for 34 odd games says it all.

Leadership is the main problem for the Lakers. Last season's team was probably among the most talented teams ever assembled. This year's team is even better. There's no question that these Laker teams had more talent than those Bulls teams. The only difference was the Bulls had a superior #1 guy obviously in Jordan and the team had more veteran leadership. Yeah, Jordan was a fantastic leader, but that team was stacked with veterans that knew what it took to get the job done. So, despite not having nearly as much talent as this year's Laker team, that Bulls team made up for it with veteran saavy and discipline.
BTW, 65 wins should've been easily attainable with the talent they had, with or without Bynum. They have arguably (now with Duncan and KG declining) the best PF in the game and the best 6th man in the game (by far).

Agreed. Talent wise, this year's Lakers are stacked. But as a fan, at the end of the season, I just want another ring - another 3-peat.

Its unfair to have such huge expectations from the Lakers. First of all that 96 Bulls team was loaded. They had a faaaar better supporting cast than the Lakers. And they played defense. Nobody on the Lakers except Kobe and Artest are willing to play defense. Can't win 72 games if you don't play defense.

They will not win more games than 2008.

Faaaar better? Its really about equal. Ranking the top 10 between both team it would probably look something like this:

1. Jordan
2. Kobe
3. Pippen
4. Gasol
5. Rodman
6. Artest
7. Odom
8. Bynum
9. Kukoc
10. Fisher

4 Bulls and 6 Lakers. And if Bynum reaches his potential, he would at least be #5.

Re: Reggie Miller predicts the Lakers will Challenge 96 Bulls

They could win 69, but what is more important than talent or discipline or anything is chemistry, if you can't get your team to work together, they will go the road of the 2004 lakers.
