And while the fine is way too high, we understand that the league wanted it to act as a deterrent so the appearance of impropriety won't become an issue again.

But the Commish doth protest too much, methinks. Really, did anyone think this was serious? Were people going to make the connection between a clear Ochocinco joke and a conspiracy to fix games? The only reason we're still talking about this is because the NFL extended the conversation by levying the fine. This story had cycled out of the news by Monday morning. Now it's cycling again and will probably be discussed on sports blogs and on PTI today and on Sunday morning pre-game shows. By fining Ochocinco, the NFL did exactly what it didn't want to do: bring attention to gambling.

As for paying off the fine, Ochocinco should totally send a box full of 20,000 ones to the NFL offices. If he needs help getting that large an amount of bills, I'm sure he can get Pacman Jones' phone number pretty easily.

Ridiculous. Ochocinco is probably my favorite Non-Niner.

Ochocinco: @BarackObama Barrack I've just been fined again, can we meet to set up a fun rule please. I can't go to mcdonalds for 2 weeks now. Smh

I wonder what the process is for paying a fine? I wonder if sometimes the team will pick up the tab. I'm sure it happens.

WTF?

They should have fined him $1 to make a point. Its not like a ref would really take a buck to change a call. The NFL has no sense of humor.

Chad Ochocinco's pretend $1 bribe cost him a lot more.

The NFL fined the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver $20,000 and reprimanded him for taking a dollar bill onto the field during an officials' review of one of his catches last Sunday. Ochocinco held the dollar in his right hand at his side but didn't give it to the official, who motioned for him to stay away.

Ochocinco said he was just having fun, but the league didn't like it.

Ray Anderson, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, sent Ochocinco a letter that said: "The very appearance of impropriety is not acceptable. Your conduct was unprofessional and unbecoming an NFL player."

You dudes are tripping. Was it funny? Yes I laughed. But it was embarrassing if you are the NFL to have someone compromise the integrity of the league for giggles. The problem is that type of behavior shouldnt be tolerated. Ocho gets away with alot without getting fined. But he crosses the line knowingly and is willing to pay the fine to make us laugh. You have another league named the NBA going thru drama about fans questioning officials and even the league being "in" on games. Why would you allow a player to do what Ocho did?

Even his coach Marvin Lewis said it was a bad move and something you just dont do. And the $20,000 compared to what Ocho makes for a game? Doesnt compare. He probably has $20,000 hanging on one of his ear lobes. Fines have to be somewhat significant given what these dudes make. Or else they all would be taking BS $100 fines to show thier asses. NFL has made a change with player conduct and guess what? Its working.

Yeah, it's making the league less fun. Soon no player would be allowed to show any emotion whatsoever without getting flagged, fined and/or suspended. The league already has a number of retarded rules, and it seems to be getting worse all the time.
