Nash, if you just care about the average season's performance

never saw much of Harper, but those are some amazing shoes

The Maverick Derek Harper would own the Maverick Steve Nash.

Wrong.

Harper's best year as a Maverick saw him average 19.7 ppg, 7.1 apg, and 1.9 spg. Harper's 5 best seasons in Dallas, and he had 7 really good ones but Nash only had 5 in Dallas total, saw Harper have lows of 16 ppg, 7.1 apg, and 1.9 spg.

Nash's 5 best seasons in Dallas saw him average 17.9 ppg, 8.8 apg, 1.04 spg as his bests and 14.5 ppg, 7.3 apg, and .65 spg as lows.

So, statistically, Harper did what Nash was doing offensively and was very good defensively. As far as team accomplishments go, Harper led the Mavs to Game 7 of the WCFs against the Showtime Lakers in '88 and Nash's best was Game 6 of the WCFs against the Duncan/Robinson Spurs.

I have always maintained that Derek Harper is the 1st team PG on the Mavericks all time depth chart list in front of Jason Kidd and Steve Nash.

What about the fact that Nash always had a 6moy candidate backing him up at the PG spot and taking possessions away with him? Doesn't that deflate his stats? And doesn't the fact that Dallas was always in the 55-60 win range with Nash matter?

What backcourt was better..Nash/Finley or Harper/Blackman?

Finley was definitely the heart and soul of that team. So Finley>Blackman at their primes.

I don't know. Black was a 4 time All-Star in the 80's west. (Magic, Clyde, Stockton) While Finley was a 2 time All-Star in the 2000's west (Kobe, Francis:roll: )

A better would be the Big Three of Dallas from the:

1980's (1983-1989)
PG - Dereck Harper
SG - Rolando Blackman (3 All-Star)
SF - Mark Aguirre (3 All-Star)
1990's (1994-1997)
PG - Jason Kidd (1 All-Star)
SG - Jim Jackson
SF - Jamal Mashburn
2000's (1998-2004)
PG - Steve Nash (2 All-Star)
SG - Michael Finley (2 All-Star)
SF - Dirk Nowitzki (3 All-Star)

Man I wish I was old enough to witness those 80's Mavericks. Sometimes, people overlook that era when talking about the old Mavericks just because the 90's was so dreadful but those 80's teams were pretty good. Michael Finley was the man though. He deserves to have his jersey retired in the arena someday. Shoot, if Brad Davis has his up there, Finley should be a no-brainer haha.

Hey question though. Since I was too young to follow those 80's Mavs, what was the deal with Mark Aguirre? Statistically, he should be the greatest Dallas Maverick of all time but why isn't his jersey up there in the rafters? Was he really that bad of a locker-room/character guy?
