I suppose there's no way for us on the outside to really know if he was doing his job or not, and I doubt we get any real explanation. The franchise is really kicking ass in the PR department with the casual fan eh? Fired Mel Daniels, the Fieldhouse funding fiasco, now Perkins is gone. Doesn't matter if they're right in any of those decisions, they all upset the casual fan. Larry's job's not getting any easier anytime soon.

I think when he got hired it was described as some sort of liaison between players and upper management. Even then it sounded like a nice paycheck for being part of the old boy's club. Make some appearances, remind people the Pacers used to be pretty good.

We'll never know but I just can't see him being the type that has some massive unfixable disagreement with the organization, I mean he's the Big Smooth for a reason. I assume it's cutting more unneeded costs from the budget to try and help with the Fieldhouse funding stuff.

Oh, and TJ Ford officially picked up his $8.5mm player option for next year. Shocking, I know. Watson's gone, so I guess Ford'll actually play next year, unless we sign another wandering vet like Earl. Can't really see that since we're as cash strapped as ever. Here's to giving AJ Price 30+ minutes every night and Ford having his most value probably ever by being an expiring contract.

Also since he's expiring, he'll be playing for a new contract somewhere, so you gotta assume he'll be trying to play the best ball of his life. Or he's back in Houston having more ustream chats showcasing how little work ethic he seems to have.

Perkins' firing wasn't surprising, according to people I talked to Friday. It had actually been coming for quite some time. Perkins and a couple of members of the organization didn't see eye-to-eye over his role as VP of player relation and they didn't feel he was a good communicator.

The team wanted to meet with Perkins the day after the season ended on April 15, but he was out of town until earlier this week.

Whatever the hell that means. I'm still under the assumption it was some trimming of the financial fat.
