Oh, please. Most rappers steal beats, they don't compose shhhit. Only guys like Wyclef and Andre 3000 compose their own music/beats.
I'll say that most rappers are writers and lyricists. But not musicians.
Actually most rappers are just rappers. Some write their own lyrics and are songwriters. The rappers that sample beats are producers, and producers are most definitely musicians.
I know that Shaq, Kobe, and Artest have put out rap albums. Anybody else?
Rapping doesn't make someone a musician.
I'm not understanding this standpoint at all. Why arent they musicians?
They often don;t play an instrument, can;t read music and steal their songs. If you can make your whole song on a computer by sampling beats, you're not a musician.
In a band? You're a musician.
Can read music and sing like Celine? I consider you a musician.
In an orchestra? You're a musician

Okay, I'll give you 24 hours to make a beat and we'll see how good/bad it is since that anyone can do it.
Already have done it at university. It was easy.
That was about 8 years ago. Give it a shot, it's easy. You just need to be able to create a hook.
Rap is the music most often listened to murderers, rapists and thieves. It should be eradicated.
There's obviously a difference between sampling a beat (making it yourself) and stealing an instrumental from somebody else. In the first case, if you do it well and don't just rip the original song you are a musician imo.
BTW Cedric, not all rappers are misogynic retards who rap about their cars and hoes.
I'm not understanding this standpoint at all. Why arent they musicians?
You're a musician
a) because it's your profession
or b) because you perform or write music
if it's b), then yes, they are musicians, but then so is everyone who has uses his voice to sing.

The beats on that album are sick.
