Knee/foot pains...

I have recently gotten serious pains in my knees and my foot. I think the reason for this is because I play ALOT of basketball outside on the concrete and recently I have been trying to dunk with 2 hands. I think that all that hard jumping has taken a toll on my knees and feet. How do I prevent this from happening without having to stop going to the park? The pain is pretty bad too like I have to be cautious the way I walk because my knee hurts every time I step, especially up the stairs.

Sounds like tendinitis in the knee. I don't know about the foot pain.

The only way to heal tendinitis is to rest... then when you come back you can't play every day, and you have to limit yourself to certain amount of playing time (for a while) so it doesn't happen again. I've had it 3 times and it's really starting to heal itself now, but it's been over 2 months that I've had this problem.. and playing on it only made it worse.

Hopefully though the thought is that when it does fully heal, your knee will be stronger than it was before (or at least able to take punishment). That hasn't been the case with me since I've had it so many times in the last year... but it's never fully recovered either. If it's your first time, it should go away within a few weeks. You just have to be patient. Playing on concrete/blacktop certainly doesn't help either. Just play on the hardwood and that's it... at least for a while after you heal up. It's a process dude.

Basketball seriously must have to be one of the most injury prone/damaging sports to the human body?

Well it's anything that involves a lot of quick movements. Many sports have that... but basketball has it constantly so I'd say it's definitely up there with Soccer for most damaging. Football is bad too, but those guys get injured by getting nailed more often than not... Basketball players usually have non contact injuries.

I also read about Osgood-Schlatter, and I am hoping this is the cause of the pain because I seriously need to grow taller. Im 16 (turning 17 in October) hopefully I grow atleast 3-4 inches. Im already as tall as my dad.

I have had this when I was growing, especially at ages 13-14 where I grew about 25 cm or about 10 inch. Was so bad to the point where I couldn't walk up/down stairs after I played sports and if someone tapped my knee I'd crumble to the ground from pain.

Now at 22 though my knees are as strong as ever and without pain. It is something you want to have checked out by a doctor though. There isn't much you can do about it but there's the possibility of the disc of your knee tearing and then you will need surgery.
