Re: Nationals sign Jayson Werth

I was really hoping he'd go to a contending team to spice things up, but hey, if $18M/year is staring in your face I guess you have to take it if you're Jayson Werth.

Too bad for the Nationals, though, because in after losing 270 games in the next three years he'll try to force his way out, and they won't have any takers for him at that price, and be forced to eat his salary for his mediocre play.

Man, this signing is totally going to take the Nationals to 75 wins.

In three years : Strasburgs arm will be destroyed i.e Prior then Bryce Harper and Werth will both demand a trade. :facepalm

At first I was stunned he would sign with the Nationals and then I saw the terms of the contract. :oldlol:

Part of me wishes the Red Sox wasted all that money on him but I'm happy they don't get to add his talent onto their team for the next couple years. Now hopefully Crawford will go to the Angels and the Adrian Gonzalez deals remains dead.

Werth is a good player, but $126 million? Absolutely not worth it. Anyone that thinks this signing makes this team the least bit relevant is delusional. This team with no injuries and several players having career years is at BEST, a .500 team and even that is pushing it.

Here's an AWESOME stat from Jayson Stark:

"The Nationals will pay him more than all free agents franchise has signed in last 20 years ($122.1M)!"

 @ this deal. At least he isn't in New York or Boston though. I'm already sad that the Rays lost Crawford. I don't want to see anybody else coming into this division.
