Type 1 Diabetes

Does anyone here have type 1 diabetes? I was just diagnosed with it this morning at the age of 22. I'm trying to get some information from people with diabetes so if anyone can help i'm all ears.

Runs in my family. Oh shit.

I've had a healthier childhood than they have though. So fingers are crossed.

Sorry to hear that; I have a few friends who have it and not to scare you or anything but one of my best friends died from it as well. It's pretty much just constant surveilance on your part. Understand the sugar index of your meals and plan your insulin injections accordingly. If managed correctly, you should be fine but it will be a constant battle.

I would look into one the automatic insulin injectors (something like that). They test your blood sugar every couple of hours or so and give you insulin accordingly. It would definitely make it easier on your part and I would imagine be covered by your insurance. Ask your healthcare provider about it.

Also, if he has type 1 it's not from an excess of sugar, that's type 2.

Wrong. You're thinking of type 2. Type 1 is an autoimmune attack on the beta cells of the pancreas. The cause is unknown.
