Time to Trade Kaman

Since we blew things up by trading Baron, wonder who we can trade Kaman for?

Wouldn't have minded seeing Kaman to Charlotte for Shaun Livingston, and expiring contracts. Livingston and Blake in the pick and roll would be a beauty to see.

posted this in the main forum thread on my take of the clipper trade

Quote:

At first, I was like this trade is horrible. Giving up a first rounder to save some coin. But there are some positives for the Clippers.

They save a lot of money. Did we all expect Baron Davis to remain healthy for the next 2 years? This dude is one of the most injury prone players in the game. Those types of injuries that nag on for weeks and months. Only the past 24 games he has played well as a Clipper. And that's in 3 years. Injured players like Baron really hurt team chemistry because you have to get used to him being in and out of the lineup.

Clippers have a lot of youth. Maybe too much youth. They are still developing Griffin, Jordan, Aminu and Bledsoe. You can only develop so much youth at a time. As I read in an article in this thread, they also have picks from Minny for 2012, in a better projected draft. And how often do the Clippers hold onto their draft picks?

Who knows, Mo could opt out the next year or the year after. It will certainly motivate him to play hard since he is playing for a contract.

The Clippers get worse in this deal but not significantly worse. Mo is not the prototypical pg for this squad, but he is not a scrub.

All in all, this is Sterling doing his thing to save some cash. But I dont view it as horrible as everyone else. Cavs still win this trade bc of the pick, but its not as bad in my eyes as most see. If he remains a Cav throughout his contract, Cavs fans are going to get sick of him being in and out of the lineup and clogging up their cap

As for a deal for Kaman. His value is very low right now. I am sure the Clippers wouldn't mind a salary dump, but he will be expiring next year and could be a very useful asset to have. Get him healthy and raise the value, then deal him and his expiring contract for something of value in the off season or next year.

yeah i think that's what they're trying to do, because it has been proven that he and blake can't play together, so why trade him for nothing now when you can get something quality next season.

as for the baron trade, i get it after initially thinking it was horrible too. i just want to know why they chose now, after baron played his best and got the team playing their best. the season was a waste with baron playing 35+ minutes when bledsoe could have been getting valuable minutes. they are obviously trying to go forward with a lineup of bledsoe/gordon/griffin/jordan and hopefully aminu. and i like that because bledsoe is really tough and once he learns how to run a team he will be great. i just don't understand the timing of this trade, could they not have done it sooner?

Maybe they had no takers for him because he was so injured. At least now the Cavs know he has something left in the tank. I am not sure if he will be bought out or not, but I dont think anyone was taking Barons massive contract when he was not even playing due to injury. A 1st round pick wouldnt have been worth taking on an injured player with a massive contract

Kaman to the Suns on draft night for the rights to whatever center is projected to be available (Lucas Nogueira; compared to Tyson Chandler on NBADraft.net, Jonas Valanciunas; compared to Nenad Krstic/Primoz Brezec, and my personal pick: Keith Benson; averaging 18/10 with 3.9 blocks for Oakland).
