Some questions about the Bulls.
I was reading about the Bulls on wikipedia and it says that they traded Scottie Pippen to Houston. I stopped paying attention for a while after Jordan retired in '99 so why did they trade Pippen and who did they get? Did Pippen not want to play for the Bulls any more?

Also it says that Tim Duncan, Tracy McGrady, and Grant Hill all refused to sign with them. I can see why Duncan wouldn't have wanted to because he's probably really loyal to the Spurs but why didn't McGrady want to sign with the Bulls?

Last question... what was Jerry Krause thinking when he traded Elton Brand for Tyson Chandler?

1. Pippen was traded for Roy Rodgers and a second round pick. I'm not 100% sure of why they traded him, but I think he just wore out his welcome in the post-Jordan era.

2. Not sure.

3. He had the mindset of most NBA GMs, this guy his potential.

1.Pippen did not want to stay with the Bulls, but because of the brand new bargaining agreement, in order to get the full max the Bulls had to sign and then trade him. The Bulls just did him a favor by signing him for the max and then letting him go to Houston for nothing.

2.Duncan and Hill were never coming here. The guy Krause really wanted was McGrady. McGrady's agents were all telling him to sign for Chicago, but McGrady is actually from a town not far from Orlando so Orlando was basically his home team. He went against his agents and went with Orlando. Dumbass. He would've had Brand, Artest and Miller with him if he had come here.

3.Krause became legally insane around late 2000.

Brand, Artest, Miller and McGrady... how good would that team be?

StarJordan 06-04-2006 03:53 PM

Time had run out on the dynasty. It was time to move on.

At that time probably not that great. Those players minus T Mac had won only 17 games plus they were coached by Tim Floyd. Why would T Mac go there when he could be the 2nd half of a new millenium dynamic duo with the best perimeter player in the league at that time Grant Hill?

I've always fawned over giving up Artest, Brand and Miller.... now you plug in McGrady.... Geezus, there would be no stopping that team.

And didnt Krause scare off TMac by hugging him when he got off the plane or something?

Remember, this was only one year removed from the '98 title. If McGrady had gone to Chicago and done what he did in Orlando the endorsements would have been crazy. He would've been deemed the successor to you-know-who. Probably would've gotten a LeBron-like contract from Nike. More money from his other contracts too. He definitely would have overtaken Kobe.

If he had gone to Orlando and Hill was actually healthy, it may have just been like Toronto II, when Vince got all the attention and McGrady was the sidekick.

Instead he pulled a Marbury and went home. That almost never works out (see: Junior). I don't think it's ever worked out since Barry went to the Giants.

One problem with McGrady guys...he's always hurt. Who the hell wants a player that's hurt or plays hurt every year? When I say he plays hurt, I don't mean he toughs it out. He plays, subs out, comes back in later and totals about 20 minutes in a game. He has NEVER played a full 82 game season. He does better in Adidas commercials than he does on the court. Who the hell smiles after his potentially game winning shot gets swatted off the backboard by Kenyon Martin? McGrady, that's who. He can't do crap with Ming, he left VC in Toronto and now Orlando is better off without him. And you guys wish the Bulls had him? OMG! Let him rot in Houston!

The Bulls traded Pippen because he wanted out. He wanted to go to Houston and at that time the only way Pippen could get the money he wanted was to have the Bulls sign and trade him. Pippen also wanted to go to a contender. He THOUGHT that Houston with Barkley and Hakeem would get him that elusive ring without Jordan. Wrong! Krause, being nice for ONCE, signed Pippen to the largest contracted allowed at that time, then traded him to Houston where he got NO ring. And for ONCE, Pippen was greatful. Pippen was AWESOME, ask Jordan.

Brand was traded on a gamble! The gamble was that Curry would be a taller version of Brand, NOT that Chandler was better than Brand. The thinking was that Brand and Curry would crowd eachother on the blocks and that would be a problem. If Curry turns out to be a taller Brand then Chandler is the perfect compliment to him. One post scorer, the other a rebounder. It worked for ONE year. The Bulls had the 3rd best record in the East and made the playoffs, FINALLY! Problem is, Curry wanted to leave. Bye, Curry. Now Chandler is alone and struggling. We need to find him a mate...Aldridge? Now, Brand is still killing. Oh well.
