A little ironic as we watch the playoffs with the impending labor strife in NBA.
One of the core messages you hear is that small market teams are driving for competative balance to the Lakers Heat Celtics Knicks Bulls for example ; as well as make a profit as seemingly they cant make a dime out of the 43% of the $300Billion in gross revenue.
And this years championship "could be Thunder or Grizz vs Hawks".
Not predicting that it will  ....
..but it could be very ironic in making the players case that good management of assets and talent is possible to win.
Re: Potentially ironic?
You do bring up some good points but there are so many disadvantages for small market teams, think about how long Memphis, Atlanta and OKC/Settle sucked, in order to get to where they are today.
The league needs a hard cap (or we will see heat part II) and draft lottery needs to be restricted to the bottom 5 winning the lottery. (Rose to bulls :facepalm ).
