i have a stupid question
What's up?
soul surfer

ok, so from what i understand the biggest threat to surfers is getting knocked out when they wipe out and drown, right? why not just wear life vests? does it encumber their movements too much or is it just a macho thing?
i'm pretty sure this is a dumb question for surfers but for someone who has never been on a surfboard like me, it just seems so obvious. i mean, even skaters and bikers wear helmets now, ya know?
I've been surfing for years and I can tell you that It's definitely a macho thing. Safety has always been second in our culture. It's just the water, the surf, our bods and the ladies man.

i don't know, it's like .. why the rugby guys don't use protections like american football guys? it's a stupid question too.
i tried surf many times, and i can't answer that question to you too lol
the biggest danger are the reefs, and then maybe sharks but thats only if you're doing it in a big wave place like Hawaii or Australia. Like when i go to Ocean City the waves are pretty small but i can ride them and when i flip i generally doing it underwater and hit the ground pretty hard but usually my kinetic awareness is good where my feet hit the ground rather than my head but my shorts usually fall off due to the force then i put raise them back up against as i'm getting erect again.
Big thing is you should never be swimming alone. I have but its eerie. Theres no reefs unless i go to the inlet area but that place makes me paranoid since you're really not supposed to be swimming there.

a lifejacket won't do you much good when a wall of water tosses you around like a dirty sock in a washing machine.

Pete is strong like an ox, but I doubt even an ox could carry a full grown man up a tree.
