Barbosa going home to Brazil ?
Globe & Mail sports reports Barbosa will opt out of his contract and return home to play in Brazil in a locked out season. His brother in Brazil is quoted as the source.
He may decide to go either way given the burgeoning economy in Brazil and long term endoresement potential. Barbosa departure would reduce Toronto's salary sturture to $34MM plus rookie contracts verses last years salary at $69MM --- $34MM would be $21M under the 'projects new hard cap' ?? ($55MM) Pretty decent money to pick up a player or two |

Thank you Barbosa if true.

I have it at $35.6M if we don't qualify Wright. This would be a nice break to start the rebuild a bit sooner.

He's a great player but just doesn't have a purpose to this team. We got him 1-2 years too late.
Hoping this is true, though. |
Re: Barbosa going home to Brazil ?
I actually like Reggie in an "Alvin Williams" sort of way.
If we can retain Reggie at a fair price I would love him here. Problem is going to be fair price. $5MM per 2 seasons and team option? It becomes debatable. I would think that Reggie would take that in a heart beat else he would bolt for the MLE with any team in contention. I dont see a lot of $7MM offers coming Reggies way. As for Barbosa $7.6MM - he might make that back in 3 sponsor ship deals with Embracer Jets and Barvara beer back in Rio. I cans see his point especially if a lock out looks potentially likely. |
Re: Barbosa going home to Brazil ?
In my opinion Reggie ends up on a contending team that needs to beef up their front line. Miami?

Not sure if they want to breakup their MLE for Reggie.. |
Re: Barbosa going home to Brazil ?
Good point. But that kind of team will end up signing him I think.
