Is Aaron Brooks starting PG material? Can he eventuallly start for Suns?

Aaron Brooks has had really good stretches in the NBA, and some lousy ones

Here's more on his brief time with the Suns so far and what the future might hold:

Of course he can, he did a great job as starting PG in Houston before he got injured.

I'm really skeptical about Brooks leading the Suns but after watching Nash for so long it's hard to see anyone else at the point.
But who else is there that's gonna be available and willing to come to the desert.
The one guy I'd love to see Phoenix go after is Ramon Sessions, with consistant playing time I think he'd be a really good point.

He could replace Nash as the point guard, but not as the star. If Nash goes they need to get another No.1 guy, cause Brooks wont be enough. Like I said though he could adequately fill the pg position.

he can start for pretty much any team if they don't have someone like steve nash playing on that same team

As long Nash is on the Suns he won't start over him.Nash creates for others and that's what Suns need. But when/if Nash leaves he could start.

He is definitely worth starting material. Before his injury he was putting up around 20+ points. He would be a great point guard for the Lakers since he is more or a scoring guard.

he'd be a good takeover for Nash since he can dominate the ball and run all over the court in a similar way. i think he'd excel in situations where he can have the ball a lot, and the Suns when Nash retires seems as good as any.

Yeah but they'll need a true #1 scoring option cuz he isn't close to having the same kinda court vision Nash has.

When Nash retires, it'll be weired to see the Suns w/o a star point guard.

1. KJ
2. Kidd
3. Starbury.. ok ok :oldlol:
4. Nash

Brooks is a starting PG material. However he is a scoring PG and will not fit in the Nash style offense. He just doesn't have the passing and court vision like Nash has.

Re: Is Aaron Brooks starting PG material? Can he eventuallly start for Suns?

He's absolutely a starter. Playing on a team without Steve Nash, arguably the hardest act to follow at the PG spot today, Brooks would almost certainly be getting All-Star mentions. Prior to injuries he was absolutely balling in Houston. He was a man possessed in that 2009 series against the Lakers (that sick inbounds alley oop at the end of the quarter still sticks out in my mind). It floored me when Houston traded him because I was convinced he was untouchable. Anything can happen, I guess.

If Portland and Denver didn't make their trades I definitely could see a guy like Brooks thriving as a starter in Portland with that Aussie kid Mills backing him up. His speed and ability to slip through the cracks of the defense would be a valuable asset anywhere but he'd have the room to grow with the Blazers now that Miller's gone and expectations for that franchise continue to be relatively low. Not a high pressure situation with a front office expecting instant results.

Re: Is Aaron Brooks starting PG material? Can he eventuallly start for Suns?

No. He's a defensive liability, needs to dribble around too much for most of his offense, isn't that efficient, and he's old enough that he only has another year or two left before he starts to decline. What role would he have? He's not a distributor and isn't a good enough defender to play the Fisher role and spot up with a ball dominant wing.
