The Pistons might have the deeper bench, but i'd take the Celtics star power.

Re: 2004 Pistons vs 2008 Celtics

2008 Celtics were greater in regular season. But if we are talking about playoff runs; 2004 Pistons > 2008 Celtics.

2004 Pistons;
Regular Season D-Rtg: 95.4 (Regular season league pace; 90.1)
Playoffs D-Rtg: 92.0 (Playoffs league pace; 88.4)

2008 Celtics;
Regular Season D-Rtg: 98.9 (Regular season league pace; 92.4)
Playoffs D-Rtg: 103.3 (Playoffs league pace; 88.0)

In the 2008 playoffs, the Celtics allowed 100+ points 7 times.

At least, IMO it's safe to say 2004 Pistons' D > 2008 Celtics' D.

Celtics bench is much deeper but the Pistons starting 5 is more rounded and slightly better.

Prince was young but at the time he was much better contributor than Rondo and Perkins.
