Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
Oh, and John Henson has developed a sweet turn-around jumper with a little fade on it, ala Rasheed Wallace...another long versatile UNC PF. Henson isn't on Sheed's level yet, but if he continues to be an offensive threat with that move, then he's the est PF in the nation this year due to him being such a disruptive defensive force.
Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
I really like Baylor's team this year. They've got the size and athleticism to match up with anyone in the country. My only question about them is their ability to shoot from the perimeter as well as reliable guard play. Once Perry Jones is healthy, they'll be starting a huge front court.
SF: 6'10" Anthony Jones (or Quincy Acy)
PF: 6'9" Quincy Miller
C: 6'11" Perry Jones
I know both Brady Heslip and AJ Walton can shoot, but can they take advantage of abilities of the freakishly athletic players they're playing alongside? I like Deuce Bello's potential as a defensive stopper as well as a threat in transition. Quincy Miller has already led the team in scoring the first two games and I have no doubt he'll be a lottery pick. He's got a very polished game for a freshman big man and can slide down to the 3 spot without much problem.
I never heard of the red shirt sophomore Cory Jefferson before this season but he's another surprisingly impressive big man with an NBA body for Baylor. They're one of the few front courts in the nation that can matchup with the UNC/Duke/Kentucky type teams.
Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
UCLA choked it up against LMU but CSUN, despite being the third youngest team in Division 1 and shooting an abysmal 25% lost at USC by 7! Without a chance to make the Big Dance, I expect the Matadors to continue to impress with games @ Washington, @ Santa Clara and @ Pepperdine remaining!

Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
So tempted to pull an all-nighter and watch all the games tonight. I did that freshman year with a bunch of kids when I lived in the dorms and it was a ton of fun.
Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
1st game of the season and we're already going to OT vs. Penn.
Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
the jacksonville state tigers (ive never heard of them either) play @ florida, @ baylor and @ ohio state in the space of one week.
Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
This Detroit vs. Notre Dame game is really helping me forget about the lockout.
Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
I know it's old news, but I still think it's so cool there's a Stockton running the point at Gonzaga.

I watch a ton more college hoops during the regular season, anyway. It'll be April-June when I start really missing the NBA.
Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
In the Gonzaga-Washington State game Washington State scored to start the second half to make it 41-35 in the Zags favor. Gonzaga has ran-away from them since, though. It's 60-39 Gonzaga, and Pangos is putting on a show. So far he's hit eight of Gonzaga's 12 three pointers.
ETA: Pangos has nine threes now, tying Dan Dickau's team record. Oh, and Pangos is a true freshman.
Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
Is anyone else up watching the Gonzaga/Washington State game? Gonzaga led by as many as 20 in the second half and led 77-62 with about 5:00 to go in the game. WSU went berserk from three for a little while to make it a 77-73 game.
And as I type this Gonzaga pushes it back out to an eight point lead.
Re: 2011/12 Observation Deck
I was watching, such a nice game ..
Kevin Pangos 9/13 from 3points was amazing, and Reggie Moore leading Washington State to almost a 20 point deficit.

Yeah, pretty cool despite the fact he isn't anything special.
ESPN needs to do more late night games, haha. The Big West could use them.

You can usually catch a WCC game (maybe once every week or two) on ESPN or ESPN that tips-off 11:00 ET. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that it starts until conference play, so it'll be awhile.
