Tampa Bay Bucs hire Rutger's Greg Schiano

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...ATQ_story.html

Surprising move, as they go from one young, inexperienced professional head coach to another. But I think Bucs fans will like Schiano.

Proud Rutgers Scarlet Knight here who has had the chance to visit with him on a few occassions. Very smart, very driven, a great teacher.

Rutgers last winning season was 1978 when he took over the program in 2001. While his overall record isn't overwhelming, the first four years were disastrous as he simply tried to make people realize RU had a football program. Since then 6 winning seasons out of 7, 5-1 in bowl games.

His players are pro ready. Kenny Britt, Ray Rice, Gary Brackett, Anthony Davis (SF), Brian Leonard, Devin McCourty (NE), Jason McCourty (Tenn), Tiquan Underwood (NE) just some of the pros he's turned out in 11 years.

Rumored that he was next-in-line for Rams job had Fisher turned it down.

Good luck, Greg!

And yes, I realize I put the apostrophe in the wrong place. Thread title should read Rutgers'. Don't dog my RU education!

I like the hiring.. I'm not sure what type of offense Schiano ran but I'm sure it's more adjustable to the NFL then Chip Kelly(how would that offense work?) Morris had no head coaching experience while Schiano does so I don't think that will be a problem. I think this could be a similar hiring like Jim Harbough, don't be afraid to go after college coaches, just don't go after the ones from the premier schools(Saban, Spurrier, the Arkansas coach)

Only time will tell if this was a good hire or not. I know one thing, this was one of those, wth moments. Good luck, Bucs
