Pistons tried to trade Ben Gordon or Charlie Villanueva

Michigan Live reports:

The Pistons were interested in moving big contracts, specifically either Ben Gordon's or Charlie Villanueva's, but couldn't make it work in the end.
One clear example was the Pistons' effort to send one of those big contracts, and a future protected first-round draft pick – not this season's pick – to the New Orleans Hornets for center Chris Kaman, a Michigan native who has been shopped all season.
The Hornets countered with a pickpocket offer of Carl Landry for Jason Maxiell and the Pistons' first-round draft pick this year.
Dumars had one overriding positive as he pondered, and ultimately rejected, all offers: Even the players the Pistons were willing to deal are not people they are reluctant to retain.
“We don't have any headaches here,” Dumars said. “We don't have any guys who are causing issues here. So if we weren't going to make a trade yesterday, it's not like I was concerned about these guys, trying to make trades and all.”

So basically Joe D. is trying to fix a couple huge mistakes he made..... Of course we don't need Landry here. Kaman would be a good addition. I think we could pick him up as a free agent (which is what the rumor is). Dumars should have never given that kind of money to unproven players anyhow. BG had one good season. He never deserved that kind of cash. We helped Chicago become one of the best teams in the East by bailing them out and signing him. If they would have signed him it would have killed their cap space. If Detroit never threw that kind of money at him they would have resigned him too. Charlie's contract wouldn't be terrible if he at least played as well as he did before coming here. Hopefully something can happen in the offseason with these two. We need to finally move on from all this. I said from the start I would have rather just grabbed a few rookies with upside to fill the roster out and have kept the cap space to hopefully make a future move.....

Charlie Villanueva, Austin Daye and Will Bynum aren't in the playing rotation and all are quite open about their displeasure with the situation. Daye and Bynum have admitted they wouldn't be opposed to a change of scenery. Villanueva is the team's third-highest paid player this season at $7.5 million and is on the books for roughly $16 million over the next two seasons. Daye is the 2009 first-round pick who is still trying to establish himself. Bynum hasn't seen this little playing time since his first season with the Pistons in 2008-09. Detroit Free Press

I'm sure those guys are upset with their PT. Of the three the only one I think that deserves a chance is Daye. He could end up being a good player still. I like Bynum but I don't see where he fits in anymore, now that Detroit has Knight. Charlie I'm just done with.
