Top 10 Coaches in current college basketball

1. Billy Donovan:
The back to back titles in 2006-2007 brought Billy Donovan to the same tier as Coach K. Billy Donovan has an edge over Mike Krzyzewski for the reason that his team lacked the same talent as Duke Blue Devils, except for that 2007 team that was destined to repeat.

2. Mike Krzyzewski:
He has four titles, the most among currently active coaches. A legend, a winner, it is impossible to hate on an elder like Coach K. His team has been consistently good for more than 20 years, let alone the fact that Coach K almost never chokes against mid-major league teams.

3. Jim Calhoun:
Jim Calhoun is the spirit of UConn, his importance to this program is nothing less than Coach K is to Duke. The three national championships proved Calhoun's capacity as a coach, and more impressively he was still able to do it last year at age 68.

4. Roy Williams:
Roy Williams needed only two years to bring UNC a title they'd been waiting for a long time, and now he has won two NCs in less than half as many years as it took for Dean Smith. Sure his team never lacked talents, but it takes skills to turn a talented team into a champion team.

5. Tom Izzo:
Tom Izzo is somewhat unfortunate since he never had a super talented team to win it all, but yet he managed to win one title and has been consistently overachieving in NCAA tournament given the limited talents on MSU. He will have a stacked team next year though, so we will see then.

6. Rick Pitino:
Pitino won a title in Kentucky, and he was the mentor of Billy Donovan. Even now he still has yet to lose a game to his student. His performance as head coach in Louisville has been nothing more than impressive, while hes still seeking for his second national championship at this point.

7. John Calipari:
Coach Cal is perhaps best known as the greatest recruiter in college basketball. His coaching skills are highly underrated though, it is worth noting how his team never had chemistry issue. He also made 6 elite eight in 7 years, now he needs a title to move further up in this ranking.

8. Brad Stevens:
Brad Stevens had a team with limited talented, much worse than MSU, but the back to back final four appearance has secured Brad Stevens to a top 10 spot from this list. Some say Butler will be stacked next year, so perhaps its time for Stevens to make another run and move up from the poll.

9. Shaka Smart:
Another coach from a team with limited talents, but tremendous success for the past 2 years. VCU will get better for the next 1-2 years, and Shaka Smart has a very good opportunity to further improve his stock value. Another final four appearance seems quite likely, if not guaranteed.

10. Jim Boeheim:
A quite controversial figure. Jim Boeheim's teams can suffer bad losses at times, but the title in 2003 ensures the last top 10 spot for him. Syracuse has been a quite talented team since 2009, perhaps it is time for Jim Boeheim to make another run at final four and even national champion.

Didn't Coach K's team lose to a LOW major in Lehigh just a week ago?

Your opinion on anything related to college basketball is pretty worthless.

Did you seriously start another thread and take the time to type out a description for each coach just so you could purposely leave Bill Self out since your "KU will choke early again in the NCAA tournament" thread failed miserably? You truly are pathetic.

I said he almost never choked, which means he did suffer bad losses but only in very rare occasions. Anyway, this defeat at Lehigh would not ruin Coach K's legacy. If he keeps losing to the likes of Lehigh in the next 3-5 years it will be a different story though.

So he should be considered one of the 10 best coaches in the country? And that senior laden trendy tournament sleeper team of his got beat in the first round. Not saying he's not a good coach but he hasn't done anything to warrant being mentioned in the same breath as coaches like Williams, Krzyzewski, Self, Calipari, Izzo, Calhoun, Pitino, Boeheim, and Donovan.

Isn't he the guy who took was there at the beginning of Gonzaga's rise and took them to a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 in the late 90s or early 2000s?

Love how you sneak Boeheim in there even though his recent tournament track record has been similar to Self's. Not to mention Self's national title is more recent than Boeheim's.

No idea why I'm arguing with you because your agenda is incredibly obvious and this is one of the worst trolling threads ever.

I was also going to point that out lol. Also, the double standard is incredible considering the fact that the Blue Devils have also underachieved signifcantly apart from their title year.

You also want to get into talent available. Not that Kansas doesn't get its share of recruits but after their last title run, look at their recruits. A lot of good recruits but never multiple 5 star laden ones like Unc, Duke, or Kentucky. And please, Mich State recently has gotten its share of top recruits, similarly to Kansas. Self turned Robinson into arguably the top player in all of college basketball.

Well you do not understand the difference between a top seed losing to the 2-5 seeds and a top seed getting upset by 9th seed and 11th seed? Perhaps Boeheim is a choker too, but the degree of choking is not even close to Bill Self.

Nonetheless, he managed to slip back into his old choking jobs in 2010 and 2011. People can change, but something's never gonna change.

First round losses as huge favorite to Lehigh, VCU, Eastern Michigan.
