MLB Thread 2012

Don't think we have a thread to kick off the official season yet. Since I work graveyard and have time to kill I've been keeping on eye on the stream between the A's and Mariners. A's have had Felix in trouble with RISP the past 3-4 innings, but he keeps getting out of it because the offense (well both of them) are kind of pathetic. Top of the 8th and it looks like neither starting pitcher is going to get a decision in a 1-1 game.

...and as I suspected we're going into extras tied 1-1.

Ichiro having a nice game going 3/4 with a couple infield hits.

Cespedes 1/3 with a double.

Montero 0/4.

aaaaand Seattle wins 3-1 in a snoozer...literally because the game was on at 3 in the ****ing morning.

Good article on how the $2 billion price for the Dodgers doesn't make sense. I don't really remember there being a bidding war that would drive the price this high, if anything groups kept dropping out from what I was reading. The fact that they paid this amount of money and McCourt still has control over surrounding land is ridiculous.

"It's problematic," Zimbalist said. "He was looking for some kind of ongoing income stream and he got it. Here's a guy who borrowed practically all the money to buy the team for $430 million and now he's selling it for $2.15 billion and he's coming out with a healthy capital gain -- it's repulsive. This is someone who doesn't deserve to walk away with a healthy profit after eight years of running the Dodgers in the most egregious, the most inefficient, the most self-interested, and the most vainglorious, idiotic way possible. It really is repulsive that he will still be making a profit in some way."

My A's might be the worst team in baseball. In the past few years I at least got to watch great pitching performances and despite mccarthy pitching well last night I can't really expect good pitching from this team.

Another pitchers duel through 3; Colon has a perfect game while the A's only have 1 hit back in the first.

It's going to be tough to find any bright spots on the A's until they got the hell out of Oakland. Until then I'll continue to enjoy cheap tickets, probably head out to opening day in Oakland if I don't have to work.

OR it was because it's the A's and Mariners.

We're lucky either team scored runs at all.

Re: MLB Thread 2012

I'm really bummed about the Reds losing Madson for the season, and another guy in our bullpen, Nick Massett, is opening the season on the DL, so what was an area of strength of ours is looking like a concern :(

By the way, hate how the season is starting off like this with tape delayed games. Awkward for Seattle/Oakland to be playing these games, and then flying back to the states to finish up their spring training schedules.

Just read an article saying McCourt won't make any money from parking after all. He still owns the land, but the ownership group retains rights to parking and all that stuff and McCourt will only see profits if the land he owns is developed in the future.

I just hope that the end result of this whole Dodgers situation isn't a new stadium. Dodger Stadium is a real gem. I went years ago, and would love to go back someday. Some places should just remain standing forever, and that's one of them.

Joey Votto has 1 infield pop-up since 2009.
