Re: Bigass Poltical thread Part V: The Democratic Convention

You're only naming Republican politicians. Let's be fair, Obama had only 2 months of experience in office prior to being elected. Being a good politician is someone who can be more of a centrist and not as divisive as this administration has been. Reading from a teleprompter all the time doesn't help either. But let's speak truth here, there are far better Democrats than him.
*Im only naming republicans because Obama is an incumbent and there arent any other democratic contenders
*Being a good politician is not exclusively about being a centrist.. or not being divisive.. There are times when each of those traits are needed and times when they are not..
*Obama is light years better than those GOP members I mentioned because he is intelligent... He doesnt act like a pandering jackass (like bachmann, Romney, Newt and the others). I have serious problems with Obama..but he knows he is the better of two bad choices, and that is what Americans have to deal with..
*With Obama being unchallenged, it is difficult to get a feel for some of the
the democrats coming up behind him.. I dont see any real statesmen like Clinton was, or even somebody smart like Rendell
Clinton & Obama are currently the standard by which other politicians are measured
Not saying they are ideal IMO, but they are much more qualified than the rest of these knuckleheads
Re: Bigass Poltical thread Part V: The Democratic Convention
The Myrtle Beach tourism board trucked in several tons of sand and spent $30,000 to have an artist sculpt a giant sand likeness of Obama downtown. It didn't look anything like the president and that was before most of it got dissolved in the rains. :oldlol: I still don't understand the reason for the sculpture in the first place other than to tell the world "come to Myrtle Beach, we have sand."

Re: Bigass Poltical thread Part V: The Democratic Convention
Bush ruined it for Republicans for at least 8 years...Obama can thank Bush for his victory
I would like to predict that Paul Ryan will be the next Republican President

I'm referring to political skills. That's why I said politicians and not presidents.

He got major legislation passed with health care reform.
That was a massive achievement and he went to the middle and adopted a Republican idea to do it.
He is way more of a centrist than he is a liberal.
If you want to talk politicians being divisive you need to look at the Republicans who openly announced from day 1 their only goal was to insure he would be a one term President damage to the country in the short/long term be damned.

No chance in hell.
Jeb Bush has a better shot than he does.
Marco Rubio and Chris Christie are the two frontrunners to take the Repub nomination in 2016 if Romney can't take Obama.
Re: Bigass Poltical thread Part V: The Democratic Convention
Where we stand. These sites average polls together according to different models.
Pollster has Romney up by half a % point.
Romney 46.6%
Obama 46.1%
TPM's Polltracker has Obama up by almost half a % point.
Obama 47.3%
Romney 46.9%
538 at the NY Times has Obama up 1.4%
Obama 50.0%
Romney 48.6%
RealClear Politics has Obama up .1%
Obama 46.8%
Romney 46.7%
Those are the national polls. Obama is still leading in most of the swing states and thus has the edge for electoral votes.
Re: Bigass Poltical thread Part V: The Democratic Convention
The only one I regularly check is 538 because it did particularly well in 2008.
Silver's final 2008 presidential election forecast accurately predicted the winner of 49 of the 50 states as well as the District of Columbia (missing only the prediction for Indiana which went to Obama by 1%). As his model predicted, the races in Missouri and North Carolina were particularly close. He also correctly predicted the winners of every U.S. Senate race.
He also was within 1% of the overall popular vote

The Ted Kennedy Tribute gave me goosebumps.

Re: Bigass Poltical thread Part V: The Democratic Convention
The Romney/Ryan campaing have put a press release asking Are you better off than you were four years ago?
That is the question that they want Americans asking as they watch the Democratic convention.
Four years ago. Four years ago is not January 2009. It's September 2008.
Anyone remember that month? Here's a handy reminder.

This guy from Ohio is hitting outsourcing hard.
This is at least three speakers with Ohio ties. Kathleen Sebelius is up and just mentioned her Dad was governor of Ohio.
Re: Bigass Poltical thread Part V: The Democratic Convention
Still not a fan of the way outsourcing is demonized by both parties.

I wonder what would have happened if Bill Clinton went rogue and endorsed Romney. I don't think Obama would have any chance of winning.

Bit of a big if, dontcha think? How do you think that happens? He just forgets the Republicans hounded him for years and then impeached him over his testimony in a frivolous lawsuit?
