Joe Flacco vs Matt Ryan
 

always thought they both seem similar in physical attributes but obviously a huge chunk of being an good QB is decision making.

Both are having a great 2 weeks so far in terms of stats.

Flacco: 43/71 60.6% 531 Yards 3 TDs 1 INT QBR 91.9
Ryan: 47/67 70.1% 518 Yards 5 TDs 0 INT QBR 117.6

Stats are only half the story imho, who is a better QB today?

Truth.

Ryan plays half of his games in domes. Though the Ravens have decent weapons, the 1-2 of Julio and Roddy White is arguably the best in the league.

Not to mention, Flacco's schedule is MUCH harder than Ryan's. Ryan doesn't have to play the Browns D twice, Steelers twice, Bengals twice, and all of the NFC east.

You're a damn fool. Flacco is 6 5 with a cannon capable of every throw on the field and Dilfer was a game manager who got lucky to get a SB.

Matt Ryan has two legit number 1 wideouts on his team and the best tight end ever still playing at a high level. In a dome for at least 9 games a year with no elite defense in his division.

Joe Flacco plays with no true number 1 wideout and average tight ends, plays a quarter of his schedule yearly against elite defenses in his own division.

I'd say that's a pretty fair reason to explain the difference in stats for these two that Matt has an edge in.

They're pretty close in terms of ability. Joe clearly has more throwing talent. Matt makes better decisions consistently I believe. The difference between them with their legs is small, if any.

I'd have a hard time thinking Joe wouldn't be putting up great numbers if he was in a offensive situation like Ryan's.

Ryan reminds me of the early years of Peyton last night. Same thing with playing in the dome most times of the year and being untested in the elements vs a hard nosed defense in the playoffs. He has all the tools to be an elite QB but he isn't there yet because he hasn't won a playoff game.

Flacco however has won 5 playoff games and is battle tested every year in a very difficult division and outdoors stadium. and with the new offense to give him more options, I like his chances to go to the SB this year. He should have been there last year.

Flacco is inaccurate as fck and Boldin and Smith are a great WR duo

Flacco had a great week 1 and then went back to being Flacco...a very inconsistent passer

he will look great every now and then and then go on to look like shit every now and then...


playoff wins are on the team as a whole and a horrible way of ranking QBs

I do not see a young Manning in Ryan at all. That's just my opinion of having seen every Manning game of his career and seeing about 10 of Ryan's games.

They have similarities in how their early careers have unfolded though.

Yeah Eagles defense had nothing to do with that. Oh look, another tough defense Flacco has to face. I put Ryan over Flacco but the it isnt even close argument I simply do not agree with.

Eagle D was a big part of week 2 that but Flacco will end the year with a passer rating in the 80s maybe low 90s while Ryan is in the 100s I bet

we'll see though maybe Flacco will surprise me...

It's closer than what people are saying in this thread. I would say Ryan is better but it's close.

Flacco has shown that he is better than Ryan in the post-season though. Ryan always gets exposed and plays poorly in the post-season.

Ryan is better because he is more accurate and a better decision maker. Flacco has a stronger arm and that is about it.

prime actually hit in right in the head. i catch most if not all raven games every year and flacco is inconsistent as hell. his playoff success is what makes this close. ryan needs to show his ability to carry over his play but im still taking him over flacco

both qbs are from the philadelphia/south jersey area
