Gaming headset advice

I've never owned a gaming headset but looking to get one and after reading up on some lately, and I think I've narrowed down my choices to two.

- Stereo sound is enough. I don't want to pay up to $200 (or more) for surround sound (sorry Astro fans).
- I do want a wireless headset.
- Multi-platform (PC and PS3) is necessary but I'll probably be using it most for PC.

1. Turtle Beach Ear Force PX3

2. Sony PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset

The PX3 seems to be $139.99 - $149.99 everywhere I look while the Sony headset I've found as low as $79.99. Most reviews I read seem to be fairly underwhelming for the PX3 and positive for the Sony. I think a lot of that is based on the price/value. I'm generally a believer in "you get what you pay for" but is there really a $70 difference in the quality for these two? The PX3 also works for XBOX so I'm sure that adds a bit to it.

Any opinions?

I'm interested in this too. I've been looking at the really high end stuff though (probably because I'm a sucker). As an old timer, particularly in the video game realm, I'm not huge into the multi-player scene. However, I look at this as a one time purchase, it's not something I'm gonna be upgrading every year. I'll probably use these for the next decade if I get them. So surround sound is essential for me. Need to be wireless. And I'm looking for PC and PSIII compatable. I'd like to be able to use them on my TV is possible too.

I'm wondering whether I should just splurge too and be set for the next 10 years like you said. I assume today's headsets are future-proof when it comes to the next gen of consoles. I don't see how the audio outputs can really change.

Several of my friends use the PX3. They all love it and give it rave reviews.

120$ for frost ones.
90$ for regular ones.

Don't buy px3 or any sony headphones, you will overpay and get worse product, there is a reason progamers don't use crap such as px3, answer is simple: quality.
