Who has the best defense in the NFC West?

The Rams actually have a decent defense but I think it is safe to say they are out of the debate for now...

It is amazing how powerful this division is now compared to recent years

IMO

1. Seattle Seahawks
2. Arizona Cardinals
3. San Francisco 49ers

I think an argument could be made for any of those teams though

Who you got?

49ers. They arguably have 2 or the 5 best defensive players in football with Willis and Smith.

The Cardinals and Seaawks have very good defenses though. No doubt about that.

3 top 5 defenses in football.

Seattle's defense is great at home, only very good on the road.

The Cardinals and Niners are built very similarly on defense, really tough to choose.

Daryl Washington may be the best linebacker in the NFL right now and to me maybe the most underrated defensive player in NFL. Pat Peterson looks like the best young corner in the game.

Seattle's secondary is so ridiculous they can basically play a cover-1 or even a cover-0 the entire game and just trust those 2 safeties and 2 CBs to handle up on the WRs all by themselves and let the front 7 rape the QB/HB

Yeah very good point. You're nitpicking here, but all 3 of these defenses are top 5 in the NFL. Not sure they aren't the top 3 defenses in the NFL?

Michael Brockers will be a monster for the Rams btw, and help them out a lot.

believe it or not I think the Cowboys could be right up there with them also...no homer

On paper, maybe, still not as complete as those 3 defenses but honestly the Cowboys aren't as disciplined as those 3 defenses, and thats mainly what separates them, not sure if its coaching, but it's something. They give up too many big plays that they shouldn't.

we aren't the same D as last year...

we did just lose Church for the season though who actually looked to be a stud safety, so that might be the difference alone in us being up there as an elite D.

our D line has looked good with Hatcher though and should look even better when Ratliff gets back...

IDK, we will see, but this isn't last year's D

I'd choose the 49'ers because they have the best front 7 in football and that's what I believe matters the most.

They have the best inside linebackers in the game, bar none. Nobody is even close to them. Seattle has good linebackers, you can't help but be impressed by KJ Wright and the rookie Wagner....but they aren't Willis/Bowman. Arizona has a similar type player in Washington to the 49'ers duo, but his running mate is nowhere near that level.

They have a legit sack monster in Smith at OLB, and very good complimentary players at the other OLB spot. Arizona does not have that Aldon Smith type player.

Up front they have an elite defensive lineman in Smith and depending on how you feel about McDonald, another star as well. Sopoaga is very stout and does his job very well. All three teams have an excellent front, it's the linebackers that separate the 49'ers from Seattle & Arizona in a very clear way.

If you value secondary play more than Seattle might be your pick.

Cardinals are tied for 13th in yards allowed per game, 3rd in points allowed.

The likes of the Broncos, Steelers & Lions are ranked higher in total defense than the Cardinals.

Primetime must not think Arizona is an elite defense.

Combine San Francisco's front seven with Seattle's secondary and you have an unstoppable force.

I do think a little bit less of them after last night's game...they are still an amazing D though full of stud players, there is no stat that is perfect

St. Louis' D is also awesome...

-Robert Quinn has 6 sacks
-Jake Long is probowl DE
-Laurenitus is a top-5 MLB
-Finn and Jenkins are one of the best CB duos in the NFL...BOTH could make the PB this year

St Louis has a D that could win them games...if they had some weapons on offense I would think the have a chance to win the division, but Sam is the only player worth a damn, it looks like SJax is pretty much done now...and Amendola is also gone

But they're 15th in total defense!!!!!!!

Although 8th in points allowed, which is way more consistent with what they really are.

per?...they have played 5 games, everyone else 4

maybe in this one occasion points shows the reality...yards is more telling

someone needs to make a combo formula like passer rating for defense...mix of yards/points allowed/turn overs/points scored or something
