XCOM: Enemy Unknown
![]() Giant Bomb Quick Look So who else during this current barrage of big releases is playing XCOM? I love these smaller scale turnbased tactical games such as Nintendo Wars and XCOM. Furthermore, since these games are far and few in between I'm much more excited for this release than any of the other big(ger) releases this fall/winter. The game is quality. |
Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Amazing game. I never played the original, but I've heard it was awesome too.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Pretty good game, kinda different from the originals, but it's good in it's own way. Beat it on classic difficulty, some missions were really tough, trying to keep everyone alive. Still, there are flaws, not talking about the game breaking bugs either (and the camera is ****ing shitty and annoying at times), I'm playing it on ironman now, I wouldn't recommend it though. It's cool for some novelties and shit but overall anything above normal ironman is just an ass fuking. Extremely frustrating getting bs-killed and it really exposes the games flaws, with the spawning and whatnot. You really have to play with a specific strategy kiting the enemies or something, which is tedious and really limits your strategy. On classic ironman and above it's not unforgiving, it's more like abusive. Why? Because unforgiving would mean u ****ed up and got punished, whereas the way it is, oftentimes you can play your cards right but still get ****ed.
That's my 2 cents...still would recommend it though. |
Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
I haven't even been able to get past the first alien base assault because of those damn zombie making, chest bursting aliens. Those guys are ****ing pricks.

Game looks great but there's too many other things to play for now.
I'll pick this and Dishonored up during Steam's Christmas sale. |
Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
I didn't realize how utterly vital it was to get those satellites up. :oldlol:
Mostly I was just focusing on my crew thinking: "Where the fuck is my money?!" |

Probably because I didn't pay much attention to the base stuff at the beginning. |
Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Finally completed the 1st base mission. Makes it a lot easier when you get SHIV's on your team and a few good soldiers who can take more than 1 hit before dying.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
I dont play alot of games anymore these days but this one I had to get.
I was so sick of all the fast paced games I just wanted a game I could relax and have fun with. And this game is perfect. Only thing it needs is Co-op. But the single player is ok for now. :D Btw my favorite class (to use) is the one that can sprint and then shoot with the shotgun. Great for strats. And fun. But the class I cherish and will not let die is my sniper. All I do every mission is position my team to make my sniper safe and useful. I will even sacrifice other classes to save my snipers. Also the memorial is creepy! Shows all ur players/how many missions they went before they died/how many kills. I Name and customize all my characters to ppl in my life and me...So looking in there is sad...lol All the guys/gals with 1 mission and died  |

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Keeping you snipers save is definitely a priority. Not only do they become killing machines once you level them and give them some plasma rifles, they are also total bitches to level in the first place.
Does anyone have any tips towards the heavy class? They just seem like a waste of a squad spot to me, with their bad accuracy and gimped movement. The rockets are kind of nice, but not compared to the bonuses and abilities the other classes get. But alas, probably I'm just using them wrong or missing something, so what is the deal with those guys? |

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
I play this game too. All my solders are named after NBA players, some look alikes, or crazy names with #, like #NeverSurender :lol .
Game is awesome tho. Hard also. |

I use my Heavy class as my overwatch and frontlines guy. Firing the primary weapon as the first action no longer ends the turn. -Great for if the enemy moves to where you are in a dangerous spot but want to shoot first before retreating. Can fire a special shot that grants reaction fire at a single target. The target also suffers a -30 Aim penalty -Great if the enemy is trying to get a shot off on 1 of ur squad members. Confers a second reaction shot if on Overwatch and the first reaction shot is a hit. -Why I like to put him upfront and on overwatch. |
