Jerry Jones promises he will always be GM
http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/...las-cowboys-gm
Which pretty much guarantees Dallas will not have an A+ coach and will continue their futility. Hoorah! |

Yet they won 3 SB with the crappy GM. :confusedshrug:

Re: Jerry Jones promises he will always be GM
His son is next in line, which shouldn't be too long from now...
His son already has a big hand in right now, he is being trained to take over...he probably has a few GM duties right now as is... of course in the NFL "GM" just means "who decides the draft picks"...lol |

I think there is something about that last super bowl trophy that cursed this organization.
Watch this 14 second video: Look at the way Jerry grabs the trophy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhTpJs_4KRU :facepalm We did it our way!!!! (without Jimmy Johnson!!!) also.... Quote:

People want to argue if this is a good or bad thing really? Is there anyone that if given the choice of Jerry as GM or being able to have GM's which could be hired/fired, anyone to pick from, would choose Jerry? Seriously? |
Re: Jerry Jones promises he will always be GM
"Jimmy Johnson had more power back then clearly."
Clearly? Based on what? You think Jerry Jones would just give the majority duties to a rookie coach? Even Parcells once said "They want you to cook the dinner; at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries. Okay?" :oldlol: |

Re: Jerry Jones promises he will always be GM
Jimmy wanted to make draft picks and Jerry wouldn't let him...thus begins the bad relationship
those super bowl teams were drafted by JERRY...Jimmy was hired by JERRY the only coach I think that Jerry has given draft power to is Parcells...(who took Carpenter 1st round smh) |
Re: Jerry Jones promises he will always be GM
I don't think Jerry Jones is stupid or anything like that. You'll not find one post of mine saying that nor saying EVER he's a bad owner. But you can't do every job, and having a GM that answers to no one and can essentially (by the sheer intimidation of his position) force a coach to play players they don't want is not what you want. Can it work? YES. Will it work? I'd bet against it.
I'm sure there are a ton of people who are better GM's than Jerry would be considering GM is a small part of his overall job. You don't think a focused GM only who had to worry about Jerry firing him and had accountability would be better? Makes no sense to me but i'm constantly reminded how the last ten years of the Cowboys being a 500 team have nothing to do with bad choices and are always just about luck. If the Giants GM starts doing a bad job, if he is no longer making good choices, he'll be replaced. If the Cowboys GM does a bad job, he says "let's try that again". You prefer choice #2? |
Re: Jerry Jones promises he will always be GM
This conversation is sooo tiresome...has to happen EVERY SINGLE YEAR
Jerry is a decent GM, not the greatest and not the worst...he has made good decisions and some bad decisions, just like almost EVERY GM that has been in the NFL more than 5 years... hindsight is 20/20...it is so easy for fans to look back and say "this was a mistake" years later... when Jerry took Dez? fans were doing back flips... when Jerry traded up for Mo last year just for a 2nd rounder?...fans doing back flips If either of those players don't work out?...fans pretend that they knew all along it was stupid lol, it is so easy for fans to act as though they know it all. |
Re: Jerry Jones promises he will always be GM
Did i miss when the Cowboys rose above mediocre? Are we repping mediocre now? You are essentially a loss on sunday away from your season being done.
So honestly you prefer Jerry being GM essentially until he gets bored better than any outside GM? You do understand it removes all the GM/Coach combo guys from the conversation of replacing Garrett, right? |
Re: Jerry Jones promises he will always be GM
It is almost a certainty that fans will have these exact same debates with Mark Cuban 10 years from now if he hasn't brought another ring to the Mavs...
Cuban and Jerry are the exact same...both LIVE for the teams they own, both run everything, both have won championships...etc I wouldn't trade either...I like an owner that is involved, even if it is too involved...much better than an owner that can't name his own players... |
Re: Jerry Jones promises he will always be GM
" If you want to think he's a good GM feel free too. I hope he stays GM forever."
Terrible GMs don't just win three SB by fluke. The current roster has enough talent to win, they need to let Garrett go after this season and find someone competent enough to. Watching the last two seasons, that is our main issue really. |
