In my opinion, the NBA's left it too late. He's 30 years old now. No doubt he can still get up and still do some crazy stuff, but if they had of invited him 5-6 years ago or whatever it was when he was with the spurs, we might of been able to see the Free throw-between the legs dunk or windmill from the line.

I'd love for him to come out and prove me wrong, but would a 30 year old contestant be the oldest ever? (Serious question) Also read in some news article he doesn't even practice acrobatic dunks anymore or anything. Ah well, he'd probably still be better than watching half the guys in the contest.

He was doing this just 2 years ago in 2010.:confusedshrug:

Yeah fair enough. I'm happy to be wrong. Haven't seen that contest before.

Because he's always been a "normal" player who doesn't do anything well except dunk.:confusedshrug:

Not to mention he is the prime example of the difference between a "great athlete" and "great dunker" because with the way White played in college and even in his pro stints he is an average athlete on the floor. Not a great slasher because he has average lateral agility and doesn't contest for much on defense beyond an open steal.

This guy just spent far too much time perfecting his dunks since he was a kid, and for him to win a dunk contest now at 30 years old would be incredible.

I definitely feel where you're coming from. I haven't seen enough of him this year to know what he's got left dunking-wise either. I know at least two years ago he was doing freaky dunk things, but I also know two years can be a lot between 28 and 30. Here's White at 28-ish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpkXN6Mpo_g#t=0m35s

I hope he still has enough in the tank to do cool things. I'm thinking his 30 years old (in terms of his dunk ability) is similar to that of a lot of early 20 year olds.

In terms of former older contestants: Dominique Wilkins was turning 30 when he competed in 1990. Julius Erving was turning 33 in his '84 contest and Terry Tyler was turning 29 during '86. Somehow, Gerald Wallace was only 27 when he competed in his second contest in '10. He dunked like he was 35 though.

Edit: I see Rowe posted the same link while I was writing my response. My apologies on the redundancy.

He doesn't have any dunks outside of the Hornets one that are in-game unlesss there was another one.

Remember, he plays so little on this Knicks team as it is.

+ he can't put on a show pre-game in the layup line.

No problem but you just expanded further than I could. :applause:

There really shouldn't be much of a difference than what we'll see in Houston compared to what is on Youtube from that Nike event in 2010. He was 28 and then and is 30 now. The contest is more of the complexity of the dunk instead of the "Oohs & Ahhs of hops" that a lot of the young players seem to think is all that matters. Pull out a silly prop and do a dunk we've seen before but jump higher or over a celebrity. Regardless, James White is a dunker by trade and probabably will give us a show along with an attempt at the FT line dunk.
