How does a team do with Westbrook as a first option?

Russell Westbrook loves to have the ball. He loves to be the man.

Having an awesome player like Kevin Durant in the team is a double-edged sword for Westbrook. It's a luxury to have him on the floor, but at the same time Kevin's star is so big that Westbrook doesn't have an opportunity to fully shine.

No disrespect to KD, but imagine he changes teams and OKC builds around Westbrook. Let's pretend he is given the absolute 'green light' to shoot, play PG, whatever.

How many points a game does he average?

What players would you surround him with? (Maybe done by trading away KD and picking up a few pieces)

How good could they be? Or does Westbrook 'suck ass'?

He would average like 28 ppg easily but it would be on 43% shooting and OKC would enter the playoffs as like a fourth seed. This is my biggest problem with Westbrook is that he has the potential to be literally one of the greatest players of all time but you're right, he is so concerned with being the man that it sometimes ****s games up. Durant should always have more shot attempts unless he is sucking and Brook is on fire.

Players to surround him with? Big men that'd he recognize an advantage in passing to. He and Pau would actually do well together.

Westbrook has a huge advantage with Durant on the floor. Durant demands so much attention that it allows Westbrook much easier drives to the bucket. Not to mention the Thunder have many wing three-point shooters to keep an eye on (Martin/Thabo).

I think he'd still obviously be an amazing player as a first option. Dude's just nearly impossible to guard and would get other players open looks. I just think his situation in OKC is ideal for him.

Lets just put him in DRose's position on the Bulls.

Guy wins multiple rings and multiple MVP's.

The only guy who's not intimidated by Jordan's shadow.

So are you saying you would make Pau the second option?

So you put him above D-Rose at the present?

Westbrook is the PG, he gets to decide who the first option is.
And therefore he is the first option :)

Westbrook 18,93 FGA/game
Durant 18,49 FGA/game

Touché. Then what if he was the go-to man in a team built around him? Is he good enough to be a superstar in that situation? Can he be the key piece in an elite team?

If you put him on the Bulls instead of Rose how much worse are they?

I can see him averaging 27 ppg but on something like 41 fg% and probably less assists without durant so not great really

No doubt he'll average more but i dont think he can carry a team to 'contender-ship' status unless he becomes the second coming of iverson '2001 version'.
