Wish people didn't make this all about the QBs

Flacco played very well...and so did Kap

but the reason that these 2 "TEAMS" were in the Super Bowl had much more to do with the fact that they are the most physical "TEAMS" in the NFL than it did the QBs. Hell Kap wasn't even the QB the entire year, Alex Smith was. SF as a "TEAM" is probably a playoff team with any QB. Perhaps that is also true about the Ravens.

Did any of you know that the Ravens are pound for pound the biggest team in the NFL? They have a massive O-Line and D-Line. SF's O-Line is also amazing, Leonard Davis the probowl guard for Dallas isn't even a starter in SF, he is a backup.

The fact that these two teams were in the Super Bowl to me proves that you don't a Brees or Brady or Peyton to win a ring. Flacco is NOT an "elite" QB...no he isn't and if you think he is then you are just looking at the ring his "TEAM" won.

why do all the headlines and news have to be QB related? Am I the only one a little sick of how we view it and how infactuated we are with calling QB's "elite"...it's maddening

*Romo wins the Superbowl*

"OMG Romo was God tonight!"

It's a QB driven league. Has been even more so in the last couple years. End of story.

That's strange because the leagues best QBs weren't playing yesterday.

It's all about the QBs to people blinded by the media...to me this was clearly a case of the best TEAMS making it.

And is far as Romo goes, if he did happen to win a ring it will be because the Cowboys have a full team like SF or BAL around him.

"It's a QB driven league" yet one of the QBs playing yesterday doesn't even have a full 16 games under his belt...

If that doesn't make people realize these guys have teams around them then nothing will...smh

What was funny was this morning on sports center they were arguing about whether or not Flacco was even top 10, (the guy then said probably top 10 but maybe not top 7). And Hannah Storm? I think was the one that said something to the effect of "but he's got that ring that most guys don't have and that makes him elite." :facepalm

While it's dumb to judge QB's on rings, it's eqully dumb to not give the due credit to Flacco, or whoever else that "does their job" at an elite level, win or lose.

Now it's up to him to be consistent and do his job week in and week out in the years to come. He's not elite until he does that.

Re: Wish people didn't make this all about the QBs

QBs with 11 touchdowns and 0 interceptions for a postseason:
1 Joe Montana
2 Joe Flacco
3 That's it

But yea, let's make this all about the team since our preconceived notions of Flacco are that he sucks.

Both QB's yesterday were playing at top levels throughout the playoffs.

Your argument breaks down there. If Kaepernick doesn't play at that level the 49'ers don't get to the SB. The amount of games he played has no impact on his actual on field production.

No one is saying that there aren't teams around them, but the QB's get the hype.

For someone who supposedly has been watching football for decades this seems odd to me to hear. That's life. Every single sport is this way, with the positions having a little flexibility in other games. The most visible and marketable player gets the hype. The QB position, nearly by default, makes it so that the QB's almost always are in that position. No real football fan is sitting around like: "Damn Flacco beat the Kaepernicks yesterday."

The Ravens team was carried by Flacco and his big gun dont see how it isnt about him.

I guess all the secondary stuff comes into play when a player isnt a media darling. You can find reasons why Brady, Brees, Rodgers etc has success outside of their abilities as well.

Re: Wish people didn't make this all about the QBs

I gave Kap and Flacco credit in the very first sentence of my OP...but anyone who watched these teams this year understands that what set them apart for the others is that they both have the most physical "TEAMS" in the NFL...they both play hard core in your face football...that is what sets them apart...NOT THE QBS...the QBs were great but there are plenty in the league who are better.

Like I said, BAL is pound for pound the biggest team in the NFL...they are monsters...all of them...

and they are both extremely well coached teams...SF doesn't make to the SB with Garrett calling plays...

but nevermind all those guys, let's just talk about how elite Flacco is now that he has a ring because we are a bunch of simple minded media sheep who can only see a man throwing a ball and that's it...smh

Tim, I have been watching this game a long time, and it is crazy to me that fans put all the focus on the QB...

Coaching is a huge part of it as well. It was the Har-Bowl after all. I believe they firmly got their credit, as did the QBs.

Re: Wish people didn't make this all about the QBs

I just got done listening on ESPN radio to a guy claiming that the only QB he would take over Flacco is Rodgers...:facepalm

These are the same exact comments being made about Eli after he won too..."OMG SO CLUTCH!!! CAN'T SPELL ELITE WITHOUT ELI!!!" etc etc

they just ignored the fact that the Giants as a team came together and were physical as hell and THAT is what took them over the top.

It's like to the media, this was just a tennis match between Kap and Flacco last night...

Flacco really annoys me. He isn't elite, and imo neither is Eli. There are four QB's that are head and shoulders above the rest; Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, and Brees. Then, it gets a little foggy who's in the next tier because the players are so inconsistent (Big Ben, Eli, Ryan, Flacco).

Just a couple things and then I'm out.

You said there are many better, but during the playoffs there wasn't. In fact there aren't many who were as good as Flacco was this post-season historically. There are many more accomplished but I don't think either team would have switched their QB's this playoff run save for maybe one or two other guys.

It's not the media's fault, they are doing what they know will pull in viewers in the general public. It's those tuning in who are the problem because the media will continue to drive these simplistic points as long as those eat them up.

Again the QB is the focal point, if you ask a non-football fan to name players I bet that 90% of the players they can name will be QB's.

A football team is a huge organization. I really think last night's most valuable person was Jim Caldwell. Football fans understand this. But the casual fans will not recognize it.

Flacco deserves the hype, Kaepernick deserves the hype, so do the rest of their teams but that's not how the national media will play it out.
