Players Reaching from the Back

So you know that move where you get by your opponent but then he reaches in from the back and it pushes the ball forwards and leads to a steal?

Anyone got any tips to protect against this?

I'd recommend being cognizant of when those situations are likely to occur. When you know it's a possibility to be back-tipped, be sure to keep your dribble in front of you while keeping that dribble as low as you can for the situation.

Also, when you know a defender is in hot pursuit, looking to back-tip and has a chance of succeeding, you can step in front of them to cut off their angle and momentum, sometimes even resulting in a blocking foul.

this was always mind blowing to me because nobody could ever take the ball from me even though I wasn't a great ball handler... in terms of crosses and such. But people could get me on the drive like that. I think it's because you're taking off faster than the ball.

that's just a quick search. Look at 2 seconds when dude gets it... the ball is palmed and exposed. He's way in front of it. So you have to find a way to explode with the ball, and not leave it behind. Because you are leaving someone in the dust if they are ripping it from behind... but you gotta take the ball with you.

Cheers guys, this is pretty hard to think about during games but I think it is best if I stay low as I believe that it will be harder for the defender to reach in.

Simple. People keep the ball behind them when they drive to instinctively protect it form people who approach you from the front.

By overcompensating, you make the ball available from the back.

Read where defenders can/will come at you so you know where to put the ball.

Practice dribbling the ball rly far from ur body. If u keep it close he'll be able to reach it Fr behind.

stay low and keep your dribble low

most of the time the ball is tipped away from a player when dribbling it's because they bring it too high in the first place. Imagine yourself on defence, no player wants to spend the extra effort trying to go for steals if the guy is dribbling really low all game, so he'd probably stop after a while.

Shorten your dribble & keep the ball in front of you.

pretty much what people have said on here, shorten the dribble after you get past the man.

Also, if you hesitate after you get past your man, because another defender steps in to cut you off it makes it easier for some to reach from the back.

Keep the ball low and in front of you.

In the open court, simply cross over.
