Lakers missing the playoffs will cause a rule change

best 16 teams will make the playoffs, no more 8 in each league

the league needs to stay profitable

It's the way it should be anyways.

Maaaaan, kobe and LAL haters will go insane, this site will crash with hate posts.
Getting rid of conferences would boost this league's basketball level to unseen heights. Although 1st seed playing with 16th seed in PO wouldn't be a pretty thing to watch.

Are you saying you'd rather watch Miami vs. Milwaukee (current format), and that would be better than watching Miami vs. Boston or Lakers (1 vs 16) in the first round?

Is that what you're trying to say?

even better, kobe gets transferred to the top seeded team, never miss the playoffs again, even if retired, he can have a chance to get a ring

But Bucks vs Heat is a jizz-fest?

Say if there were no conferences, and it was a best of 16 teams going against one another, what would the first round matchups look like right now?

Anyone wanna bother doing that?

Already done. 1 vs 16 would be Miami vs Boston or Lakers (depending on who owns the tiebreaker).

Obviously a much more entertaining series than Miami/Bucks.

This is obviously an idea for seasons to come, there's little to no chance that 1 vs 16 matchup would be interesting in multiple years, especially in a row.

I'm sure the league can survive a season where the lakers don't make the playoffs... they'll make it tho Kobe's the goat right

Why isn't Heat v Bucks entertaining? The Bucks have surprisingly given the Heat trouble.

Meh I was bored so I did them all:

1 vs 16: Miami vs Lakers
2 vs 15: San Antonio vs Boston
3 vs 14: OKC vs Utah
4 vs 13: Denver vs Atlanta
5 vs 12: Memphis vs Chicago
6 vs 11: Clippers vs Rockets
7 vs 10: New York vs Golden State (that would be awesome)
8 vs 9: Indiana vs Brooklyn

Round two (if the higher seed advanced each time):

1 vs 8: Miami vs Indiana
2 vs 7: San Antonio vs New York
3 vs 6: OKC vs Clippers
4 vs 5: Denver vs Memphis

Round three:

1 vs 4: Miami vs Denver
2 vs 3: San Antonio vs OKC

Finals:

1 vs 2: Miami vs San Antonio

This looks great, actually. OKC-Utah would be a surprisingly good series, too.
