am i the only one who's not a fan of live music concerts?

I see all these people getting jealous of those going to Coachella, and $hit doesn't even faze me.

I'd much rather listen to a studio recording or a CD of a landmark concert than get out in the heat with all those swarming bodies with an inferior quality product ringing in my ear.

I'm sure if I were a more exciting person who gets a lot of sexual action I would think differently, but as it stands I'm not into outdoor music festivals or concerts of any kind.

Watching 'Passion Pit' right now on the live Coachella feed on YouTube, and it's good enough for me.

Well, do you dislike live concert AFTER experiencing it? Or you just saying all this while having never tried it?

It's a whole different experience going to concerts and listening to performers live.. along with the crowd.. everything. It's different from listening from a CD, which you can do anytime, anywhere

Dude.. I am the complete opposite. To me there's no substitute for live shows. That said, I have been to some awesome concerts like AC/DC, Motley Crue, and Rage Against The Machine. Maybe you just haven't been to great shows? No idea about Coachella, etc. but I've definitely been to some alternative bands shows that were pretty meh.

I've only been to two (Jill Scott & random misc. blues artists at an international fest), so I probably do need to experience it. I'm sure I'd think differently if I saw The Doors or Hendrix in their prime.

I like Aesop Rock and Wu Tang, but I don't think I'd get much out of a live performance.

Most rap sucks live.

Hip-Hop is terrible live. See a good classic rock or old school funk band live.

That's the thing. I like rap but yea, it kinda blows live. At least the few that I've seen.

I love seeing music though but it also depends on the venue. I'm a big Animal Collective fan but I saw them playing mid-afternoon on a ridiculously hot day outside on a huge stage at Bonnaroo and it was totally the wrong fit. Couldn't get into it at all.

I actually really enjoy the local rock bands around my area. That might be a good place for you. Its cheap, its usually in a bar, and very very energetic. Its a good choice if you like raw music.

Nothing compares to live shows. It's almost always a good experience. Even if it's a band that you don't particularly like, you can still have fun.

I'm a music fiend and I rarely go to live shows. But for the shows that I have been to, they are so much better than just sitting at home with headphones or a surround sound system. It's basically like a big ass party with a live band.

I think it may depend upon one's musical interests. Rap can often be a tough get live. I am also a fan of Aesop Rock and from the videos I've seen of his shows, I don't exactly feel like rushing out there to catch one. I saw El-P live last year in a small venue and it was a fun experience, but pretty straight forward, as he just went straight through his album.

I think I'm more drawn in when there's live instruments. I've still seen some good rap shows (Brother Ali did a great job) but more times than not, it's been the rock shows that have struck me, as they're so incredibly heavier and louder in person. For instance, I went to a Deftones concert a few years ago... one of the best experiences of my life. Wonderful stage presence by the band, outstandingly in your face and loud, great crowd energy, it was all there.

And maybe that's it, hip-hop can be a great show, but one of its primary mission statements isn't to be unbelievably loud or crazy, so there might not be as much room for expansion during a live show. It's largely based upon its lyrical delivery. Whereas with bands, it's often based upon the rawness of the instruments.
