Re: Tell me some good Hip Hop music

Try Rakim, Nas, Common, 2Pac, A Tribe Called Quest, Biggie, LL Cool J, GangStarr, Lupe Fiasco, Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth, The Lox, Jay-Z, and Run DMC to start with for a good, easy to find, cross-section of Hip Hop. Then move on to some other all time greats like Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Blackstar, The Roots, Big L, Big Pun, Eminem, Scarface, and Wu Tang Clan to expand your knowledge. After you listen to these people you will naturally find the people these guys are related to such as Jean Grae, Pharoahe Monch, Fat Joe, 50 Cent, Young Jeezy, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Redman, Jay Dee, Madlib, MF Doom, and so on. You should then be able to figure out what kind of rap you like, and branch out to find even more artists.

Also, you should try to find whole albums, and not just individual songs. Good rappers can put whole albums together, while any rapper can put out a couple good singles.

I just re-read your original post, and you said original Hip Hop, so I would say go for early LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Rakim, Busy Bee, Doug E. Fresh, MC Shan, Kool Keith, KRS One/Boogie Down Productions, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Public Enemy, The Roots, Ice T, NWA, OutKast, A Tribe Called Quest, Arrested Development, Queen Latifah, Will Smith/Jazzy Jeff, De La Soul, and maybe some like Too Short or E-40 if you want to listen to rappers that were pioneers or do their own thing/sound a little different.

i hope you ment rap because i dont know many i like in the hip hop world. i would have to say go with 2pac even if he is slightly overrated, dre with snoop, jay-z's first album reasonable doubt, if you are looking for beats go with TI, and eminem is good, busta rymes, slick rick, ice cube, nas, redman, and rakim. as you become more familiar you will find guys like young jeezy. dont go with 50 cent

Here's some good underground hip-hop.

If youre a fan of jazz and hip-hop,you'll love this.
The production on this is fire.
The lyrics alone are eye-openers.

I grew up listening to G-Funk (West Coast Hip Hop). Some people don't like it because of the lyrics, but whatever....

Eazy E - Real Mothafu**a G's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvllsHnOT48

Too Short - The Ghetto (Sounds good if you have good bass/stereo in your car)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOnPJegjUts

Warren G - This DJ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHVc--1LkdM

Snoop Dogg - Who Am I (This was filmed in the LBC)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-HAi0d4A1E

Foesum - Lil' Somethin' Somethin' (LBC Classic, when you see all those Cholos, that was filmed downtown LBC, shoreline)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjSvO-m2shA

Tupac - To Live & Die in L.A
http://youtube.com/watch?v=W8scNqZwoCQ

I like East coast hip-hop as well:

Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.

1st Step --> Dont invest your mind or attention towards 90% of the junk you hear on the radio...

2nd Step --> Download anything from Rakim, Lil Brother & Nas {Slash the Naustradamous movement}

3rd Step--> Thou Shall NEVER Battle Krs-1

Re: Tell me some good Hip Hop music

Just go back to where it all started. Guys like DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, Run DMC, Tone-Loc, MC Hammer, Eazy-E, Ice Cube. Rap became very popular right around when these guys were at their peak.
