Bulls may get KG, may get PJ Brown for Tyson Chandler (merged)

This is the first time the Bulls have signed a big name free agent. As far back as I can remember, I don't ever recall the Bulls ever signing a big-name player on the market. They've had their share of stars through the draft or via trade, but never from free agency.

thats cause no one ever wanted to play for that buttwipe Jerry Krause!

Trade scenarios for KG to Chicago

+ a top 3 NY protected pick

Minnesota Trade Breakdown Outgoing Kevin Garnett
6-11 PF from Farragut Academy (HS)
21.8ppg,12.7 rpg,4.0 apg in 39.0 minutesTyson Chandler
7-1 C from Dominguez (HS)
5.3 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 1.0 apg in 26.9 minutesOthella Harrington
6-9 PF from Georgetown
4.8 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 0.5 apg in 11.5 minutesChris Duhon
6-1 PG from Duke
8.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 5.0 apg in 29.1 minutesMike Sweetney
6-8 PF from Georgetown
8.1 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 0.9 apg in 18.6 minutesLuol Deng
6-9 SF from Duke
14.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.9 apg in 33.4 minutesTyrus Thomas
6-9 from LSU
No games yet played in 2005/06

Successful ScenarioDue to Minnesota and Chicago being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Minnesota and Chicago had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Tyrus Thomas' salary isn't included yet. So Malik Allen is an expirer combined with Othella should make the salary work.

A more legitimate deal is:

Minnesota gets

Lamarcus Aldridge
Tyson Chandler
Luol Deng (sp?)
Michael Sweetney
1 no. 1 pick
1 no. 2 pick

Chicago gets

KG
Marco Jaric

re:

would Ben G(J)ordon start?

kumquat 07-03-2006 09:41 PM

Especially when Aldridge doesn't even play for the bulls and those salaries don't even come close to matching.

Whoops.

I meant Thomas.

But the Bulls are still a little under the cap, plus if they have any trade exceptions, they can use those as well.

TheReturnofCed 07-03-2006 09:50 PM

I've decided K.G.'s salary is too high.

Too hard to make a good deal.

BradMiller52 07-03-2006 09:52 PM

Edit: Nevermind

TheReturnofCed 07-03-2006 09:55 PM

Imagine if the Marion for Chandler and Thomas deal had've happened?

CT: Wallace
PF: Marion
SF: Deng
SG: Gordon
PG: Hinrich

Wow!

Salaries don't necessarily have to match since Chicago has room under the cap they could absorb more of a hit.

only weakness there is gordon at defense. Not saying he's a particularly bad defender but he's 6'2 and they could have problems if they're playing NJ or the Lakers. Otherwise that's the best starting 5 in the league by far

Chandler/Noccioni/Sweetney/Thomas works. I don't think any team can offer a better deal than that, so I see no reason to include next year's pick. Outbidding yourself is stupid.

Yes athletic but VERY undersized at 3 positions.

Don't underestimate McHale's ability to be stupid and expecting more.
