Re: Finance Advice Thread
this is kind of a weird time IMO...covid cases are sky rocketing but the market is still going up because a vaccine is around the corner.
2021 has the making of an absolute market explosion *if* Biden throws out a stimulus right away AND the vaccines begin making their way around.
I imagine the entire population will be taking a plane trip vacation.
actually now that I think about it, AirBNB might be a good opportunity to buy low and wait for the vacation explosion to come
Airbnb is not public yet, is it?

I haven't looked into it but raw just said it's about to go public.
when it does probably best to wait a couple weeks and let the price shake out first
Re: Finance Advice Thread
It might be worth a try to load up on Amazon, Shopify, ETSY, online retailers before Cyber Monday hits.
The entire country will be doing their xmas shopping online this year
The only thing is all of those stocks are already at their all-time highs, which normally is a horrible time to buy...but I do think the online sales numbers will be absolutely insane this year.

How do you see amazon growing though?
Amazon is convenient with one and 2 day delivery but it's a junk store. Any food item I've ordered has arrived way past its shelf life. The amazon basis branding has been junk quality like their batteries. I
Why am I paying a hundred bucks a year for membership to a 99 cent store? I cancelled prime.

Amazon is an unstoppable beast that will not stop growing until they have either conquered the world and there are no stores left in existence or they are forced to break up by law.
Bezos reinvests ALL Amazon profits back into Amazon...he pockets none for himself. He simply does not know how to stop growing. He jumped on the gas pedal and he can't find the breaks. Honestly I think he's got a brain disorder of some kind.

I have heard him reference the idea that “as soon as you stop growing you start dying.”
Which is pretty much the truth. And cleary a concept he models his work after.

You really think every competitor will go away or be absorbed by amazon?

Well the problem is a huge majority of self proclaimed communists/socialists/anarchists all do their shopping with the Amazon mega corporation in order to save a few bucks.
I believe Rr3 posted a pic of himself sitting in Whole Foods. While clearly fighting the power.
If Amazon gets everyones business, what are competitors gonna do?
I personally use it very rarely for general shopping, but most people are all about it. What can ya do?

They wont. Although we, the US are capitalistic we do not allow big companies to create a monopoly (anti-trust laws). There will always be room for competition if one rises to the occasion.
We see this with internet or cellphone providers are the time where one looks to buyout the other but is blocked due to anti-trust laws.

Thats true. Altho they could still replace brick and mortar altogether, while just splitting into two competing online mega retailers.
Basically an Uber/Lyft situation. I mean, nobody would start up a cab service today. And nobody could set up a competing rideshare model. It’s Uber or Lyft, which are essentially the same thing, and any attempt at competing is irrelevant.
Not sayin its a good or bad thing, just seems to be where we’re headed.

My issue is because I can no longer see the value shopping on amazon for myself, I can't understand how they'll continue to grow.
Not an apples to apples comparison but costco membership is $60 a year. Prime is double that. Amazon is becoming like the cable company bundling a bunch of shit I never wanted just to get nbatv.

no not at all...there will always be dozens or hundreds of options for online shopping.
But I do believe Amazon will continue to grow...on a global scale too, Amazon expanding in India and India has 3x the population that we have.
Just last year Bezos told his shareholders "This is just the beginning"

Amazon provides significantly more versus Costco.
Just the video services alone justifies some of that 60 dollar difference. Then there's free 2-day shipping which Costco does not have. I mean even if you value their video streaming service at 5 bucks a month that makes up the sixty bucks. Then all the items ship to your doorstep for free.
There is plenty of area to grow for Amazon -- most of its benefit is restricted to the city. They have yet to roll out or expand their same day delivery to rural america.
Hell, Amazon Prime even has NFL on Thursdays...
Then there is their kindle platform which has really created a ton of space on my bookshelf.

I've spent more time looking for shit to watch on prime than I actually have watching anything. It's not a netflix substitute for me. The free 2-day shipping doesn't provide excess much long term value when I look at all the trash I never would have purchased if it didn't arrive in 2 days after I clicked a button. Costco has shit like extended warranty on electronics, a superior house brand line of products and actual customer service when something goes wrong.

Yeah but now you're making it about you. The rest of us enjoy the convenience of amazon or some of the shows amazon has. They've been putting out some decent series recently. While Costco is essentially membership based retail, amazon is FAR beyond that. It's not even a competition... that alone justifies the 60 dollar difference.
