Re: There has never been a more mind****ed ATG player than Kevin Durant
Pundits were anticipating that 1st round exit. Nelly said he has a plan how to stop the Mavs. It was basically an insidejob. Dirk was titled a choker for circumstances just like KD is.
But Dirk performed far worse than KD ever has.
Guy averaged 22 on 39% in the 2006 finals and a liability on defense.

Box score watchers exposed.
And didn’t KD already play with a Draymond/Thompson/Iguodala core? What was his record when Steph was out again? It was pretty mediocre.
KD is never winning anything without Steph Curry. Those are the facts.
Carried to what? Loss after loss while playing with current all-nba players every year?
If you remove the 17 and 18 Warriors seasons… he has the same results as Allen Iverson despite playing with far better help and in a softer era… which helps KD a lot.
Aren’t you the moron claiming the Warriors couldn’t win without Durant?
Take the ****ing L man.
This is my thing as well, and given my first post, I fell into the same pattern initially. He is 7 foot, can handle and shoot, etc. But when you start examining the more advanced stats, as well as his results given the teams he has played on... has he really achieved that much?
Again, on face value, if I were to say Dirk or Kawhi Leonard are better players than Durant - just as players - most in the media would laugh and say it is ridiculous. "A healthy Durant is the best in the league".
But your level of play - and you as a basketball player - at some point has to translate into wins if you're that good. And I completely get it if you haven't played on good to great teams the majority of your career - but he doesn't have that excuse.
He played with Westbrook and Harden. Ibaka as a 4th guy who was great at that point too.
He played with Kyrie and Harden - Blake, Jordan, Harris, Dinwiddie... a nice supporting cast.
The only time he has won was joining the greatest team of all time. As far as that Warriors squad is concerned, they pretty much won the title in 2016 if it wasn't for everything going wrong. A title has luck involved as well, and having Barnes play like trash, Curry go through a slump, etc.
It is kind of why I ask, is it wrong to consider Kawhi Leonard at his best a better player than Durant? He has won 2 titles, is great on both ends, and at his peak has a case as the best SF in the league. Hasn't played with anywhere near the talent Durant has yet he produces better results.
Same with Dirk... took you to two finals, could have won in 2006 if it wasn't for an implosion on his part, but it is what it is. Less drama, similar stats, both can shoot, etc. Why do we just consider Durant a better player? Both are MVPs - and Durant certainly hasn't achieved anything to make you say - yep - he is undoubtably a better player.

Also people really trying to defend KD trying to bolt (after getting swept) to another #1 seed again?
Seriously what has the Nets management even done to piss KD off? Refuse to sign Kyrie long-term? Sorry they didn't wanna sign their future away on one of the most erratic "stars" in NBA history. The only thing Kyrie has been consistent at is pissing off the fanbase of the teams he has played for, 3/3 in that regard.
Re: There has never been a more mind****ed ATG player than Kevin Durant
I hope KD rocks a bowl cut

I think it is perfectly reasonable to take KD over the guys you are talking about. Most would. I disagree, but I understand it.
The problem I have is what you articulate about the results having to show the "clearly superior" player label he gets vs certain guys...and KD just doesn't have that. I also think he's graded on pretty lenient standards for a guy that Zach Lowe is calling top 10 of all-time.
Like, just take your comment about Dirk in 06...and this isn't unique to you...but that is an implosion? He definitely didn't play as well as he was capable of in the finals, but too many people underestimate how hard it is to win without a legit 2nd guy. You are running out a team that KD fans would be destroying in terms of help. That team was lacking some key things that make life easier on a guy like Dirk...like better center play...a legit 2nd reliable guy...and decent perimeter defense...and it had really poor coaching.
Doesn't change the fact that while Dirk getting that team to the finals by beating the Spurs was incredibly impressive...that loss combined with his level of play in the finals prevents him from being in the Hakeem tier of player....as it should in my opinion. I'm the biggest Dirk fan in the world...but he'd simply be a better player if he doesn't get hurt in 03 in the WCF...closes out 06...and doesn't have the Warriors series.
Having said that...if he just had a player like prime Ray Allen on his team during his prime...he probably has 3 titles...for sure 2...so winning alone is tough to quantify because circumstances matter so much.
All I can say about Durant is that his non Warriors years are fantastic, but nothing noteworthy for the 15 to 20 best players ever. He also clearly struggles with the pressure and burden of being "the guy" for a franchise. Ignoring him asking out, yet again, to jump to one of the best teams in the league is absurd. Not enough is being made of this...think about his career...
Ever since he entered his prime in 2011...he's played with an all-nba teammate...a current one from that specific year...each year of his career until this year iirc. He lost to the Warriors in 16, largely because of his horrible game 6...left a championship caliber roster....to join them...then left them to form a new superteam...and is now bailing on that to try and join another one.
Maybe Durant is as good as some of his fans claim...or a better thing might be to say he could have been. It's not a knock and I'm not saying Durant is an Iverson level player...I do think he's better...it's just that his career results...with better help than Iverson...is quite similar....and I don't see how Iverson joining the Shaq/Kobe Lakers and winning a couple titles would somehow make him a better player.
And I feel the same way about Durant.
What?
He got lucky in the finals. And had a shit ton of help despite the narrative of him having a bad team.
If lebron plays average, Heat easily win. So dirk got lucky his 24ppg on 41% was enough... because of excellent help
Sorry the truth hurts.
KD and Dirk have something in common. There championships as the best player of a team come from unprecedented extraordinary circumstances that a lot of superstar players that never won a championships as the best player (or at all) probably wouldVe won in given the same unprecedented extraordinary circumstance. KD won with a championship core that already won a championship, had the best record ever, and were a few plays away from winning it all the previous season. Dirk won opposite the greatest superstar meltdown and underperformance in NBA history. At least in Dirks case it wasn’t intentional and you may say you could only apply that to the finals not the entire playoff run.
You cant tell me someone like Barkley, who is notoriously criticized for not winning a ring, doesn’t win in the same situations. I would say even much lesser players like Paul Pierce or Carmelo Anthony in their primes win those too.
