What Happens to Marion if Diaw starts to look like a MAX player?

If this happens, The Matrix will likely be traded. And, if you look at the overrall season that Diaw had it's destined to happen. Also, the way that Marion play's isn't as fundamentally sound as Diaw, though it's quite productive. He also doesn't have a consistent jump shot, which is starting to be exposed. Along with a nice mid-range touch, Diaw also has a inside game. Marion had a career year and he's always good for a double-double, but with all that athleticism and energy he still can't create his own shot. Don't get me wrong I do like him as a player
Here's Diaw's stats from his last 5 games against DAL:
43 10-17 0-0 5-6 2 8 10 6 2 1 2 1 25
37 10-22 0-1 0-0 3 3 6 4 4 0 5 3 20
38 9-21 0-2 2-4 2 7 9 4 3 0 1 2 20
38 6-14 1-1 3-4 4 5 9 1 4 1 3 2 16
40 11-16 0-0 8-10 2 9 11 2 5 1 6 1 30
His season averages:
81 35.5 52.6 73.1 26.7 6.9 6.2 0.7 1.0 13.3
The Matrix's:
81 40.4 52.5 80.9 33.1 11.8 1.8 2.0 1.7 21.8

Marion and Diaw are absolutely positively polar opposite players in every way. Why can't you have both?

Marion for Tyrus Thomas. Chea.

Isn't have a lot of good players a good thing? Only reason to do it would be for money, which would be a shame for Suns fans.

TMacsOneGoodEye 07-13-2006 04:07 PM

If you had to trade one or the other I would trade Marion. He gets his stats but he never seems to have any effect on the game. It's weird.

Zombles 07-13-2006 04:08 PM

I hope Marion gets traded before he starts to lose his athleticism given how much his game is based around it.
He should still maintain all-star calibre numbers for 2 or so years.

And yeah, if Diaw improves much more he's gonna approach a max contract.

Suns traded away Marcus Williams' 3 mil dollar contract for money, I highly doubt they'll hesitate to give away Marion's 13 or so mil dollar deal if they find they don't seriously need him.

Which is a shame.

I know! If you're going to give him away anyway, trade him to the Nets for a package including Marcus Williams.

Dont you find it funny that Diaw did not play this well until playing in Phoenix and specifically with Nash. Marion was a productive player before Nash arrived. I would be careful in heaping on too much praise and considering getting rid of Marion for one solid year.

He gets traded.

geeWiz15 07-13-2006 04:15 PM

That's because he was forced to play SG in Atlanta, while he got to be a forward in Phoenix. And he's too slow to be able to impact a game from the perimiter.

I speak from firsthand experience. I was a non-factor for years cause I was a big slash slow PG until one my coaches said, hey you've got length, try playing forward instead of PG for once in your life. Scoring avg went from 9 to 17. This year, first two games I play forward and avg 25 per, third game our PG wasn't there so I had to fill in, only got 13 (on 6 shots and 4 FTs).

It's tough to be effective when you're misused and that was Diaw's problem. He wasn't comfortable where he was, Phoenix gave him the chance to use his skills.

That could be true, but is it possible that the Suns' system allows anyone to shine...James Jones

There's always Isiah - he'll pick up any contract he can.

Younggrease 07-13-2006 04:31 PM

...

Diaw is not a max level player. Again its the Suns system. Im sick of saying it. If Diaw is a max level talent the Suns should win next close to 70 games?right??

Nash= MVP= All Star
Bell/ Barbosa/ House = amazing shooters
Marion= All Star
Diaw= All Star
Amare = All Star(now he looks like a bum but im assuming he gets somewhere near what he was)/ K Thomas

Thats 4 legit All Stars, including the MVP plus amazing role players and Nash being the best pg should be able to bring them together. But for reason i dont see them making it out of the 2nd round.

Maybe it is because Amare is nowhere near himself now, getting dunked on around by Maxiel and Chick Samb.

I diverged from the topic but Diaw on any other team is a 2nd or 3rd option. He isnt even near Odom's level and he isnt getting a max contract.
