Good News for Pacers: Walsh not Retiring

Pacers' CEO Donny Walsh isn't planning to retire after all. "I decided to stay home for a weekend to see if I could take doing nothing. I went stir crazy."

Melvin and Herb Simon, who are trying to sell the team, would love to see Walsh stay put. I don't see that happening. Larry Bird has been calling the shots for two seasons. It's hard enough to turn around a team without trying to do it by committee. Ask the Clippers and Bucks.

though it doesnt neccessarily state that Walsh will stay with the Pacers, I just dont see him going anywhere else. Walsh did a lot for the Pacers. Traded Dale Davis for JO and drafted Reggie Miller for example. I really hope he can make some deals to unload JO, Tins and Murphy's contract

lets just hope he stays with the Pacers and take the GM position back from Bird, and let Bird be his assistant GM

There's a big piece of news in there, could it be true?

ya its said that they are looking to sell the team. I dont think they want to move the team, just sell it though. I dont think that will have much of an effect on the Pacers as a team b/c the Simon bros dont do much with managing the team, its merely Walsh

Wow, I didn't even register that when I read it, just skimmed through it, really. Maybe we can get some owners with some nuts, that are willing to make the necessary moves to get this team to the level that Indiana Basketball is known for.

Get some owners who aren't afraid to pay a little luxery tax if need be.

This article is by Peter Vescey. Therefore, it is probably 99% BS.

Think of this in simple business aspects. If you're going to sell the team, why would you try and do it now? The franchise is quite literally losing money yearly, has been for a few seasons now (basically since the brawl). You don't sell your product when the demand is at an all-time low.

However, this house-cleaning business the Simons have talked about could signal a possible sell in the future. Think 2011 or so. Memphis and Seattle have both cleaned house and gotten their payrolls to insanely low levels, and both franchises are up for sale. Of course, this again makes me wonder why sell when their are two other (that we know of) franchises available, both of which are in much better shape for a new owner than the Pacers.
