Eric Gordon : Best Guard

That man is built like a Linebacker , and has solid enough size to go with his freak athleticism....He has the best jumper out of anyone and it is so beautiful, the form and release and everything about it, one of the prettiest and msot effective Js ive seen, Then he can also drive it to the lane like there's no tommorow because of his quickness and strength. ...Against smaller guards he can use his strength to overpower them or stroke the J, and against Bigger guard he'll use that quickness to drive and draw fouls like he always does...I see no weaknesses besides the fact that he is 6'4, but when you have a 200 foot vertical and are built up of nothing but muscles, what does it matter

i cant believe more people are not picking this cat over the likes of Mayo and Rose

Are you Eric Gordon? So what he is built like a linebacker, he should enter the NFL draft and see if the Dolphins bite. He is 6'2" without length. He disappeared during the season's final stanza and he does not possess the versatility that Mayo and Rose have. He is not a lead guard because he has yet to flash the court vision needed to run the point. He has a problem going up against legit NBA wing prospects. If he could not light up Sonny Weems what is he gonna do if he is faced with Kobe Bean Bryant?

Finally people are realizing some of the flaws of these top prospects (not attacking you Dasher, just the board in general that thought Gordon and others were going to change the face of basketball, like the guy that started this thread).

Gordon is a very good basketball player. No one can disupte that. He can shoot, he is athletic, he does have an NBA body. So don't a hundred other guys that never made it.

The bottom line is that this guy will be a starter in the NBA, he will score a lot of points, and beyond that, you have no clue what you are getting. Will he add the passing and IQ of a top basketball player? Will he be able to score on 6-5 or 6-6 guys? Will he work hard enough to become a good defender? At this point he is a guy that can step in and jack up shots and score in double digits. The key is his potential to take his shooting ability, athletic ability, and strength, and turn himself into a great pro. It will take at least 3 years of forced shots, missed opportunities for teammates, and turnovers, but in the end he could become a great player like Ray Allen, Brandon Roy, or at least Ben Gordon.

Gordon is closer to 6'2" or 6'3". He has an incredible jumper, first step and NBA body, but does he play a PG. He has terrible court vision and can't make a simple pass. He's like Arenas, He needs the ball to score, not very good w/o the ball. That being said, it all depends on how the NBA team will use him in their scheme.

As of right now I would take Rose, Bayless, and probably Mayo over Gordon.

Someone should test Eric and Ben Gordon to determine how much they are in relation to each other.

He's the first and only guy I think of when watching him play. Good shooter/scorer that does basically nothing else of note on the court. And whose lack of height makes him a major liability on the defensive end.

Look at D-WAde, he was basically a scorer coming out of college, with no reliable jumper and short height and same athletic ability as EG

Wade's dribbling skills and explosive first step is the difference. Both Gordon's are terrible dribblers at the NBA level, they're barely capable enough at the college level.

Slashing to the basket for layups/free throws > Jumpshots. Always.

But thats the thing he does slash and get to the FT line

Wade has really long arms and played D. Of course he was also was a couple years older than Gordon is. You must take age into account with all these freshman. I like the Ben Gordon comparison more for what Eric Gordon is right now. In two or three years at Indiana, Gordon could be a much different player. We could be talking about his great court vision and how good he is on D. But all anyone has to go by is that he has great scoring ability, athletic ability, good strength, and work to do with the rest of his game, as I said before.
