A long good read that clarifies contract issues
http://www.blazersedge.com/2008/6/23...-see-blazers-t
Its a lengthy read, but its one of the better ones I've seen in a while about our needs. It really covers salary cap rules that are very important but rarely discussed. What the article doesn't go into that it should have is how set we are if only Jack is traded. Jack is expected to be traded, so I'm curious if that is enough considering what is covered in the article. I think that would only give us about $5M in open cap space next season if we trade Jack but keep Webster and Frye. Thoughts? |

Resign Frye: $20 million Four Years
Team Option: Blake Trade: Jack + Webster |

For? I'd be cool with signing Frye to that contract, but maybe we'll be lucky and get 4yr $16M. |

It would be a $4 million/year + % raises... thus $20 million over four years... 09-10: $4 million 10-11: $4.2 million etc. So the contract would could $4 million toward our cap for the important year, and pay Frye what he's worth as well. As for who to trade Jack and Webster for? I'd really like Jack + Webster + Lafrenz for Richard Jefferson, but that would detroy $7 million of that cap space... |
Re: A long good read that clarifies contract issues
I would never sign Frye to a four year deal especially worth 5 million a year.
All he can do is shoot. He's a DECENT rebounder, but has no defense, his footwork is DECENT, his post game is ehh. He's worth 2-3 million |
Re: A long good read that clarifies contract issues
I think the problem is we won't have tons of cash to throw around. Frye is easily worth $4-5M, but I think it may be hard for us to give him that. If we can't get him for $3-4M per year, I don't think he'll be in the long term plans.
I'm still not a fan of us trading for Jefferson. Its not a terrible idea by any means, but I'd rather have a D guy than a offense guy at the 3 (lol, that probably sounds familiar since I'm a broken record whenever Jefferson's name is thrown out). |
