Blazers' summer league game 1 discussion

Game starts at 5 Pacific Time.

Bayless is relentless! He drives to the hole no matter how many defenders are packed under there. He's drawing fouls left and right. The shots themselves look dangerous, but it won't matter so much if he continues to draw fouls the way he is. Plus he is hitting all of his free throws.

Koponen is looking ok. He started out strong, but his stats were really helped by a lucky banked three pointer.

Batum is looking pretty bad so far. Ugly ugly off balanced jump shots. His most impressive thing has been an offensive goal tending, and thats not good. The ball was obviously in the cylinder and he dunked it in.

10 first quarter points for Bayless. Nice.

Meh, its too sloppy to even watch the whole thing. They seem to be doing okay though, I wish they would hit more jump-shots.

Still, I'm loving Bayless' aggression. 17 points in 17 minutes (has had shot 11 free throws).

Good game by Bayless and Koponen. Bayless was a scoring threat the entire game. Koponen picked up the pace in the 2nd half.

Batum? What happened? He was terrible.

How about that "goal tend" by Bayless? That was quite awesome. I love the idea of having a PG/SG that won't allow easy fast break layups.

Do the Blazers still have one spot on the roster? For Koponen maybe...?

Also, who won?

Re: Blazers' summer league game 1 discussion

We won, it was close, but Koponen's three's brought us back in the game when we were starting to slip and then Bayless was pretty clutch by making shots while drawing fouls.

We have 13 out of 15 spots filled. If we officially keep Batum on the roster this year, it is 14. Technically we can sign Koponen and still keep Sergio, but I don't see the point.

Oh, so we probably don't sign him, and save the money? Personally, I'd much rather have Koponen than Sergio. Yeah I just watched the last part of the game, good play by Koponen.

If I were the Blazers, I would sign Koponen and trade Sergio for a 2nd rounder and cash (I don't think we can get much else anymore).

Myth living here in Finland I didn't get to watch the game but I'm really intrested in how Koponen did. Especially how he did on the defensive end? Who did here guard? How did he look strength-wise? And also did he get to play pg? How did he do?

I did not like what Bayless did one bit!

If he's going to be playing point guard for this team during the regular season then he needs to get to passing.

Last night he looked like the shooting guard version of Zach Randolph! He got the ball and took it to the hoop and whenever he passed the ball it would be a turnover or to the wrong guy for a bricked shot.

Batum, everybody knew he had no jumper. He got drafted as a project. He reminded me a lot of Travis Outlaw in his first Summer League, maybe a little worse but he was being guarded by Blatche. The 2nd man off the bench for a NBA playoff team. He definitly needs a lot of work and muscle.

Kopponen, Ehh. All I really saw from him was dribble up the court, dribble around the perimeter like a chicken with his head cut off then pass the ball to Jerryd Bayless or shoot up a bad shot.

The person that really impressed me was Paul Davis! He had a good game off the bench. Also Bernard Robinson's defense!

He was told to score and not worry about passing last night. They said that before the game even started.

Poormansmailman - He looked pretty good defensively, but it was kind of hard to evaluate since he was guarding others who are not in the NBA yet as well. Koponen and Bayless took turns being the main ball handler on the team. I love how Koponen didn't rush things like many young PGs do. Everything he did was pretty simple and he didn't do anything amazing that caught my eye making me think "That was an amazing play!", but he seemed calm and under control minus a few rushed threes. He went 4 for 6 from the 3-point line, but really one was pure luck because it was a bad shot that banked in.

I still don't like it. He can still score and be a passer also. Look at Chris Paul. 20 points and 10 assists. I would be fine with how much he scored if I saw better passes and decisions from his also.
