Default 2010-11 Nuggets training camp roster

The reigning Northwest Division champion Denver Nuggets will open training camp Sept. 28 with 17 players, including free-agent invitees C Eric Boateng, F Shane Edwards, F Melvin Ely, F Gary Forbes and C Courtney Sims.

Boateng, 6-10, 257, averaged 3.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in five games with the New York Knicks during the 2010 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. As a senior at Arizona State in 2009-10, he led the Pac-10 in field-goal percentage (.665) and averaged 8.8 points and 7.2 rebounds in 33 games.

Edwards, 6-7, 220, averaged 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds for Albuquerque of the NBA Development League in 2009-10. He followed that with a strong performance for the Nuggets’ summer-league team, averaging 10.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 24.1 minutes.

Ely, 6-10, 261, brings seven years of NBA experience with the L.A. Clippers, Charlotte, San Antonio and New Orleans. He has averaged 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in 343 career regular-season NBA games. The two-time WAC player of the year at Fresno State, he averaged a career-best 9.8 points and 4.9 rebounds for Charlotte in 2005-06.

Forbes, 6-7, 220, averaged 3.8 points and 3.0 rebounds for the Houston Rockets’ 2010 summer-league team. He spent the 2009-10 season playing internationally in the Philippines and Israel after averaging 17.4 points for Sioux Falls and Tulsa of the NBDL in 2008-09.

Sims, 6-11, 230, has appeared in five career NBA games with Indiana, Phoenix and New York. He was with Atlanta during training camp last fall before leaving for Europe to play for CSKA Moscow. Sims later returned to the NBDL and averaged 12.4 points and 6.6 rebounds for Iowa. He was a D-League All-Star selection while averaging 22.8 points and 11.0 rebounds for Iowa in 2008-09.

The Nuggets, seeking their fourth straight 50-win season, will have a week of practice in advance of the 2010 Preseason Jam at 1stBANK Center on Oct. 5. They open an eight-game preseason schedule at home against Portland on Oct. 8.
