Peterson expected back for start of 2012

Vikings expect injured Adrian Peterson to be ready for 2012 season

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. The Minnesota Vikings are planning for the absence of star running back Adrian Peterson for one game.

Peterson tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee during Saturday's 33-26 win at Washington and will undergo surgery in the next seven to 10 days. However, the Vikings expect Peterson to be back for the first game of the 2012 season, outlining an eight- to nine-month recovery from knee surgery.

"Around eight months is probably going to be our first game," Vikings head trainer Eric Sugarman said Monday. "So we do think that the potential is to have him ready for the beginning portion of next season."
