The defense was great on the perimiter and inside in the early 2000's. Then in 05 you could still do zone but the rule changes came into effect and the drtg went fairly close back to what it was when you could hand check but not legally play zone. 94-95 specifically had that same hand checking policy as today. Where were the perimiter scorers back then? Also, non perimiter players (mostly powerforwards) started scoring tons more ton. Why? I think a lot of this increase is guys entering their primes...
Then why did the league re-interpret the hand-checking rule two more times in the 2000's? For shit's and giggles?
There also seems to be clear correlation to an increase in scoring for perimeter players, FG% and even with FTA following 05. We also saw guards leading the league with points in the paint around this change as well.
I'ms sure the direction of casualty isn't from players "entering their prime."
