Default Trail Blazers slumping lately, give up big lead to Clippers yesterday

The Oregonian reports:

It's time to pull out the defibrillator.

The Trail Blazers' season is flat-lining.

In one of their most head-scratching and painful defeats in a season full of them, the Blazers opened up a double-digit lead on the Los Angeles Clippers only to lose 74-71 before 20,665 on Thursday night at the Rose Garden.

The list of reasons behind the Blazers' meltdown was long, but chief among them was an offense that was pathetic most of the game. After a hot start during which the Blazers scored 27 first-quarter points and shot 55 percent, things disintegrated.

Sixteen. Seventeen. Eleven.

The Blazers' leading scorers? Actually, those were the points the Blazers scored in the second, third and fourth quarters, respectively.

Never were they more anemic than when it mattered most, in the fourth quarter. In their first five fourth-quarter possessions, they missed three shots and committed two turnovers. Then they ended just as badly, missing six of their last eight field-goal attempts.
