It was pretty clear they weren't going anywhere with him. When there's no hope for improvement, you make a change and move on. 28 games were a fair amount of opportunity to form an opinion, if not it sure as hell was more than 5. This move also eliminates Deron's further excuses down the line so he's gonna have to give everything he's got or else his career will be tarnished. The bad news is that none of the good coaching candidates want to come here.
Who knows - you may see Deron Williams get traded.
