Rodney Purvis, Shaq Goodwin among 10 cuts for U19 men's team
Memphis big man Shaq Goodwin and Connecticut transfer Rodney Purvis, who played last summer for the team that qualified the United States for the FIBA U19 World Championships, were the most notable players among the 10 cut after three days of trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center...
Releasing Goodwin, who is 6-9, 245, along with Georgia Tech’s Robert Carter and Arizona’s Brandon Ashley left the team with only four true big men—plus versatile 6-8 Arizona recruit Aaron Gordon—with still 10 days before competition at the Worlds begins June 27 in Prague. Goodwin played with good energy and his customary upbeat attitude during the trials; he appeared unlikely to make the squad but keeping him around would have provided cover in case of injury to one of the other bigs.
