Default Brook Lopez undergoes foot surgery, not expected to miss any time

Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez had the screw in his surgically repaired right foot replaced and should be able to resume basketball-related activities in August, Nets general manager Billy King announced Monday.

Doctors found during Lopez's postseason physical that the screw had bent.

King said Lopez was "pain-free" and didn't even notice it before he took the physical. The GM said he expects Lopez to be ready for the start of the season.

"For me, I don't have any concern because it wasn't something that he had pain in [his foot] or it prevented him from playing," King said.

Lopez, who is in a walking boot and staying in the New York City area, underwent right foot surgery in December 2011 after fracturing his fifth metatarsal in the preseason. He returned for five games after a lengthy absence and then suffered a second fracture, which was unrelated to the first one.

Originally the Nets called the second fracture a sprain before noticing a line not previously discovered in a CT scan, which forced them to shut Lopez down for the season.

Lopez, 25, rebounded with a career season in 2012-13, averaging 19.4 points and 6.9 rebounds. Lopez made his first All-Star team and ranked fifth in the NBA in Player Efficiency Rating. He missed seven games during the regular season because of a sprained right foot.
