It's a catch 22 for the Obama-admin. On one hand, his presidency has been all about pulling out troops (as well as droning the shit out of enemies and spying on the whole world), but on the other hand at some point the world may need to intervene in Syria (not just the US). But it's important for the US to stay true to it's word. Agreed that who exactly to support and to what extent is a difficult question.
We never should have said using chemical weapons was a red line. Everybody knew we didnt want to get involved. It just made us look bad.
