Brazilians shot and killed their own Olympic mascot

[QUOTE]Here we go again: A jaguar that was brought out during an Olympic torch event earlier this week was shot and killed shortly afterward when it escaped its handlers. The local Games organizing committee is now investigating the incident, but animal welfare advocates say the big cat should never have been there in the first place.
The 17-year-old jaguar, named Juma, made an appearance at an event on Monday to commemorate the passing of the Olympic torch in Manus, the largest city in the Brazilian Amazon. She was photographed in chains alongside assault rifle-wielding soldiers and a runner holding a torch.
Following the event, Juma was taken to a zoo that

The Olympics are way too commercialized. Just have the athletes go and compete. Report the results on the news. These elaborate spectacles are so corny and stupid and costly and dangerous. And why do people even watch the Olympics? If you dont care about high diving and javelin throw and ice skating relays for three years and 11 months at a time, why do you suddenly care about it every four years?
I just dont get it. It's such a forced event. The interest in it seems so forced. Enough with the Olympics already.

Don't worry: the US will look just like Brazil in about 50 years or so.

and with their recession, crime has skyrocketed. now an army of thieves and street people are licking their chops, waiting for the tourists to roll in.

RIP beautiful kitty.
The Brazilians democratically elected these boneheads in to office. They are all partially responsible for this shit they have dug themselves in to.

Mr. Abstract Genius apparently doesn't GET the fact that most of the motivation for all this is dollar and currency driven
Don't you get that pretty much all elaborate displays of any kind are motivated by business and finding ways to make various companies and individuals more income?
Companies serve up entertainment and milk it to the most dramatic degree because humans continue to seek it out and support the efforts with viewership, merchandise, travel and all things related to being a patron of sports and entertainment.
Not that complicated.
Countries that host the Olympics, Super Bowl and every other high profile event don't rejoice the way they do simply out of nationalistic/ city pride after all.

Wow, bro, is that really how it works????? Thanks so much for clarifying!!! You are an absolute pandora's box of sagacity.
Except that I meant I dont understand the interest that viewers have, and was abundantly clear on that in my post. Not that I dont understand the interest of corrupt governments, the IOC, networks, sponsors, and facilitators.
But thanks for jumping in and deconstructing the whole mystery with such distinct illuminative precision. Your quiver is endlessly stocked full of pithy poignancy. Youre a real marksman.

I know right?
Crazy how one can claim to NOT GET such basic ideas.
Humans seek out spectacle and flashy displays of entertainment and it reflects on gaudy attempts at marketing and promotion.
This has only been the case for oh, basically our species' entire history.
I pray one day you can comprehend such novel traits of our produced stimuli

And that's the exact attitude that is leading us there. A short-term outlook combined with profound ignorance as regards the things that make a civilisation successful in the first place. If all you care about is keeping things chugging along until YOU yourself drop dead, well, if that isn't the worst kind of selfishness imaginable...
No care for continuity and preservation, no concern for the kind of world your kids are going to be handed down as a result of your own self-indulgence. No doubt your grandchildren will be scurrying around dehumanising urban slums begging for a pittance from some Chinese tourists. But it doesn't concern you, right?

Who's idea was it to give Brazil the Olympics? You'd think they would pick a country that was stable, that doesn't have a alarming crime rate, disease in the water(sewage) and air (zika)...(hiv is really high there) and is already corrupt to begin with.

Re: Brazilians shot and killed their own Olympic mascot
They choose Olympic hosts a few years in advance.
A lot of fckery can transpire in that time.
Some of the problems have persisted over a long time but they didn't stop Rio from getting the World Cup a couple years ago either

Re: Brazilians shot and killed their own Olympic mascot
They just need to declare some territory in the middle of the world with seasons to be Olympia and we can just go there every 2 years instead of building billions worth of stadiums in a new country every 2 years that never get used again.
